Venture capital (VC) is a form of private equity and a type of financing that investors provide to startup companies and small businesses that are believed to have long-term growth potential. Venture capital generally comes from well-off investors, investment banks, and any other financial institutions.

Capital Markets Authority (CMA), Deposit Protection Fund have partnered with The Financial Technologies Services Providers' Association (FITSPA), The East Africa Venture Capital Association (“EAVCA”), and TASLAF Advocates to organize the Alternative Investment Conference 2023 that will take place at Mestil Hotel in Nsambya, Kampala on 26th and 27th April 2023. Corporate tables go for 1,200 USD.

On day 1, discussions will focus on reimagining private capital under Ugandan institutional investors and on day 2, focus will be on tracking rewards beyond investment outcomes.

A private-sector-led growth model has been found to be ideal for accelerated economic growth. A vibrant private market ecosystem has the potential to create new businesses, and jobs and solves society’s challenges. Despite a prevalence of various government initiatives and donor interventions, the Ugandan private market ecosystem remains constrained with modest SME critical mass.

Globally, venture capital (VC) has been a key financing source for innovative builders and creators helping turn obscure thoughts into recognized global brands. VC was previously considered a niche investment strategy that has gone mainstream. As VC continues to emerge in Africa, expanding its influence and importance for early-stage firms and SMEs: Can VC play a significant role in developing Uganda?

The Alternative Investment Conference will bring together chief investment officers, leading PE investment managers, pension trustees, industry regulators, investment professionals, and pooled investment groups. The Conference content is aligned with key investment challenges, changing macro conditions & interests, relevant market developments, and practical and progressive ideas and strategies adopted by successful pioneers. The Conference will be replete with panels, fireside discussions, and special sessions for all.
