Kitara Football Club set to promote tourism in rich oil city of Hoima

When Uganda created 10 new cities in July 2020, Hoima rose from a municipality to assume the moniker Oil City. It is against this background that through sports, Kitara Football Club will promote Hoima as a tourist destination. Kitara FC has elected Deo Kasozi Aheebwa as their chairperson.

Kitara Football Club set to promote tourism in rich oil city of Hoima

When Uganda created 10 new cities in July 2020, Hoima rose from a municipality to assume the moniker Oil City. It is against this background that through sports, Kitara Football Club will promote Hoima as a tourist destination. Kitara FC has elected Deo Kasozi Aheebwa as their chairperson.

Kasozi was unanimously elected during the club’s executive meeting that has been held at Kontik Hotel on Saturday, July 2, 2022. He replaces Godfrey Bamwenda who stepped aside after his tenure.

Kasozi has been Kitara’s vice president in charge of Finance and Chairperson Boma Young. Besides being a football fan of Arsenal, he got his Sports Law certificate in the United Kingdom from agencies. Kasozi Deo takes over from Bamwenda who will officially hand over the reigns of the club to him on 16th July 2022.

Kasozi has already started on his vision by opening an office on Hoima Main Street opposite Kingdom House which will serve as a secretariat. The club CEO will run the day-to-day activities while an advert for an account has been announced. Other duties of the office include selling all the club merchandise, registering members at 20,000 Ug shs, and hiring out of club boss to attract more revenue for the club.

The new President revealed that Kitara FC will return to Kigaya as their home ground starting next season and blamed Covid-19 and Kavumba stadium which acted as their home ground as some of the reasons that made them be relegated from the top flight!

Also, the club acquired 5 acres of land where grass is set to be planted and hopes it will host the 2nd round of next season home matches. Aheebwa says that he hopes to channel all his energies to see Kitara Fc qualify straight back into the UPL next season and in the next 3 years hopes to win it in order to represent Uganda in the CAF Champions League.

A merchandise consignment for the club arrives from China by 5th August 2022 from China. Besides a fans committee headed by a one Wycliff and Doxy has been set up to market the club both in Hoima and abroad.

He noted that Kitara FC has 100,000 registered members giving the club 2 Billion Ug shs to start from and is looking forward to the local derby match between Kitara FC V Booma Young in the Big League where he expects 50 Million Ug shs in gate collections. The 2022-2023 FUFA Big league season is ear-marked to kick off late September 2022.
