NAKAWA - On Friday September 30, 2022, MUBS Principal, Prof. Waswa Balunywa practically launched a campaign against poor disposal of plastic bottles and polythene bags. The versatile administrator was on ground with the students practicing what he preaches – cleansing MUBS.

The event was organized by the students' guild, and it was noted that, environmental degradation is rampant in urban areas especially the densely populated spots, MUBS not being an exception.

The campaign is aimed at mitigating the side effects of carelessly disposing rubbish, especially the non-biodegradable materials. The campaign on plastic waste is among the several corporate Social Responsibilities MUBS has taken on.

The campaign draws attention to the harmful effects of plastic in our environment — harming marine and human health, littering beaches and landscapes, clogging waste streams and landfills — and empowers people to make a difference.

Meanwhile, Makerere University Business School (MUBS) has embarked on a campaign toward the elimination of plastics and the country. The campaign is spearheaded by the Principal Prof. Waswa Balunywa who acknowledges that plastics have become a big problem in society. Prof. Balunywa explains that they have a target of six (6) months to rid MUBS of plastic bottles and kavera.

In his campaign against environmental degradation, he also urges all universities to enhance efforts to fight drug abuse among students by initiating campaigns to address the same. Four years back in 2019, MUBS launched a campaign dubbed ‘Tuve ku kaveera’ in a bid to conserve the environment and launched a paper bag manufacturing project. These paper bags intended to replace polythene bags that have posed a danger to the environment.

Other campaigns the school has spearheaded include drugs and sexual immorality amongst university students.
