UGANDA - Brig Gen Felix Kulayigye, Defence and Army Spokesperson, says that the contribution of UPDF to society is enormous and has led to the stability of this country in political, social, and economic advancement. “When militaries perform, the country develops because of social economic advancement of the entire country. The state owes it survival, but it is not an abstract entity. It is made by institutions,” Brig. Gen. Felix Kulayigye noted. This was during the decoration of UPDF officers at Ministry of Defence and Veteran affairs, Mbuya, were promoted recently by H. E. Gen. Yoweri Museveni Tibuhaburwa , President and Commander-in-Chief, Uganda Peoples Defence Forces.

He says the population is served by the state and the strength of a country depends on the quality of the military.

Lt. Gen. Elwelu, Deputy Chief of Defence Forces congratulated all those promoted and asked those that are yet to be promoted to be patient because there is time for everything.

“Do not relax in order to maintain peace and stability we are enjoying,” he added.

Hon. Vicent Sempijja, the Minister of Defence and Veteran Affairs was proud of the promoted officers and congratulated them. He added that any rank from Private to General is not achieved by just mere talk, but you must work hard for it because it is a noble calling.

He also revealed that President Museveni will make sure that Generals and other senior military officials are set to benefit through salary increments though the economy is not good and assured the junior officers to be patient for a pay rise.

Only officers that were promoted to ranks of Brigadier General and Colonel attended the decoration function at Ministry of Defence Headquarters, Mbuya. The rest will be decorated later at a function that will be held at Bombo Military Barracks.
