KAMPALA - If players are rewarded for good performances and good pieces of play then they will feel they are being recognized for their effort and will therefore strive to learn and become better people and players. The other factor involved with rewarding effort with Trophies is that will increase motivation. Issac Mukasa the brain behind the Uganda’s monthly Fortebet Real Stars awards says that unlike other awards, his are different because they award the best in all Sports disciplines that excel unlike others who only award particular sports disciplines. Initially, his intention was to recognize the best out of the locally based sports men and women but he has gradually transformed to rewarding also the best Uganda athletes on the international scene. Usually, the best are awarded with memorable plaques courtesy of Jude Color solutions and a cash prize of 1 Million UGX.

Fortebet is a key sponsor of the Real Stars Sports monthly awards. They inject money by investing in projects that support the country’s sporting talent. Fortebet Real Stars organized an end of year 2022 party to recognize the best sports men and women who exceled this calendar year. The Real Stars monthly awards are organized by Real Stars Sports Agency (RASA); sponsored by Fortebet, Jude Colour Solutions and Canaan Bulls.

JKL Lady Dolphins forward Brenda Ekone was named Real Superstar of 2022. Ekone won the award having won in August and September editions of the monthly awards. This was during the climax of the basketball season where she also emerged the league’s top scorer with 534 points.

Also, the best personalities for the month of November were also rewarded. These include; Sandra Nambirige (KCCA, Netball), Titus Ssematimba (Wakiso Giants, Football), Godfrey Nsubuga (Mehta Club, Golf), Beth Nagadya (Ludo), Lucy Akello (Deliverance, Hockey) and Titus Odeke Lual (City Oilers, Basketball) were the respective winners. Also, at the event, KCCA FC and Uganda Cranes legend Jackson Mayanja Mia Mia received the life Achievers award. The event attracted a couple of dignitaries including NCS chairman Ambrose Tashobya: “I want to thank the Organisers for coming up with this, it’s good to be rewarded and I treasure my certificates, the ones I won during my playing (basketball) days so much.”

“As Government, we are looking at how best we can enumerate our athletes, and that’s one thing on top of our agenda. “We want to ensure that athletes are rewarded so that they can transform into good citizens of our society, and they can inspire the new generation.” Below is so far the best of 2022 until November

Fortebet Real Stars Monthly Awards (January 2022)

• Motorsport: Ponsiano Lwakataka & Paul Musaazi
• Football: Moses Aliro Okabo (Wakiso Giants Football Club)
• Rugby: Innocent Gwokto (Heathens Rugby Football Club)

The Rally crew of Ponsiano Lwakataka and Paul Musaazi won the January 2022 Fortebet Real Stars monthly award.

This followed the duo’s triumph in the National Rally Championship (NRC) season opener held in Mbarara after winning 5 of the 8 competitive stages with a Subaru Impereza.

Lwakataka’s award was picked on his behalf by the wife, Rose Lwakataka, co-driver Musaazi and Mafu Mafu Rally fans group leader Enock Mayanja at Route 256 Restaurant in Lugogo on Tuesday, February 1, 2022.

In football, Wakiso Giants’ Moses Aliro Okabo was named as the best, coming ahead of URA’s goalkeeper Nafian Alionzi and Gaddafi midfielder Yunus Sibira. Heathens Rugby Football Club’s Innocent Gwokto took the rugby gong ahead of Ivan Magomu and Michael Wokorach.

FEBRUARY 2022

The February awards had four competings, the winners were;

Athlete of the month: Halima Nakaayi
Rugby player: Joacquim Chisano (Heathens)
Badminton player of the month: Fadila Shamika

March 2022

Uganda U20 forward Derrick Kakooza, Joan Nampungu, Maxwell Ebonga and Irene Nakalembe were named the best in their respective sports disciplines.

April 2022

Mercyline Chelangat, Shaban Muhammad, Aaron Ofoyrwoth, Sharif Nabangi and Jerry Kayanga were the winners from various categories.Shaban was named the best football player of the month following his sensational performances that saw him score 6 goals. Ofoyrwoth fresh from winning the Africa Rugby Sevens Cup was named as the best Rugby player of the month. He beat teammates Adrian Kasita and Malcom Okello to the accolade.

Nabangi beat Christine Alupo and John Bosco Opendi to the Volleyball gong of the month of April.

In Athletics, Chelangat was rewarded for her astonishing performances and beat Ali Chebures and Shida Leni to the accolade. Kayanga was crowned as the best Basketball player of the month. He beat Tony Drileba and Titus Lual Odeke to the gong.

June 2022

St.Mary’s Kitende student Sylvia Nantongo was named as the best basketball player of the month after she helped Uganda progress to the 2022 FIBA U-18 Afrobasket finals

Nantongo was the MVP and the top scorer at the U18 Zonal qualifiers that were staged at Lugogo as Uganda cruised past Rwanda and Tanzania to book a ticket to Madagascar.

In Cricket, Batsman Simon Ssesazi was the best Cricketer of the month.

In Athletics, Rachel Chebet Zena was rewarded for scooping silver in the 10000m at the African Athletics championships in Ivory Coast. Chebet finished in a time of 32:17:06 in Ivory Coast. She beat Jacent Nyamahunge and Ronald Musagala to the Athletics award.

Fazilah Ikwaput won the football gong after her performances at the CECAFA Women’s Cup. The forward scored in five games as the Crested Cranes smiled to the title last month. She beat Hasifah Nassuna and Sandra Nabweteme who were also instrumental in Crested Cranes’ triumph.

Michael Alinga was named the best Golfer of June. He excelled at the Kenya Golf Union Chairman Prize tournament.

July 2022

Victor Kiplangat, Amuri Mukasa, Daniel Wanyama, Amis Saidi and the crew of Umar Dauda and Hamza Lwanga were the winners rewarded at route256 in Lugogo.

AUGUST 2022

The August awards had five competings, the winners were;

SEPTEMBER 2022

Eight accolades were awarded to the outstanding performers of the month of September.

Outstanding performers from Volleyball, Ludo, Hockey, Motorsport, Athletics, Football and Cricket were rewarded.

Moses Kirumira (Ludo), Bobosi Byaruhanga (Football), Martin Masau (Athletics), Yasin Nasser (Motorsport), Daudi Okello (Volleyball), Mathew Kisakye ( Schools), Raid Kiyemba (Hockey) and Riazat Ali Sha (Cricket) were the winners of the September awards.

OCTOBER 2022

They awarded the best in Woodball, Football, Golf, Cricket and Basketball.

In Football, Vipers SC custodian Alfred Mudekereza was named the best of October following his heroic saves that helped the Kitende based side cruise to the CAF Champions league group stages after eliminating TP Mazembe.

Rose Akone of Lady Canons won the Basketball accolade beating City Oilers’ Francis Azoribe and Deng Dikong of Namblazers.

Christine Birungi was named the best Woodball player of the month following her excellent performances. She overcame Joan Mukova and Israel Muwanguzi to the accolade.

In Cricket, Immaculate Nakisuyi (Aziz Damani Women) clinched the October award. She beat Deepesh Hiran (Patidar) and Aloysius Odoi (JACC).

Andrew Ssekibejja (Lake Victoria Serena Golf Club) was the best Golfer of the month. He overcame Michael Alunga (Uganda Golf Club) and Marth Babirye (Uganda Golf Club) to land the October gong.
