We are on the right track in terms of digital evolution says GM Raxio Data Center
Raxio Group, to which James Byaruhanga belongs, is a leading data center operator in Africa that specializes in carrier-neutral data centers. Their focus is on constructing and managing Tier III data centers with the needs of both retail and wholesale clients in mind.
UGANDA - James Byaruhanga, the General Manager of Raxio Data Center in Uganda, expressed his satisfaction with the remarkable evolution of information and communication technology (ICT), highlighting the numerous benefits it has brought. He contrasted the situation from two decades ago when there were only a few service providers like Infocom, and the prices for ICT services were considerably higher. Back then, the cost of 56GB per second was $250 per month. Over the past 20 years, there has been a continuous trend of decreasing prices in Uganda's ICT landscape.
Byaruhanga's comments were made during the launch of a digital transformation roadmap. This comprehensive five-year plan was developed by the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance, in collaboration with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). The roadmap outlines Uganda's trajectory towards becoming a fully digital society, aligning with the country's Vision 2040.
As part of this ambitious roadmap, the government is committed to expanding the National Backbone Infrastructure (NBI). This expansion aims to provide internet connectivity to an additional minimum of 73 districts and 20 major towns. The plan encompasses a wide range of institutions, including administration units, schools, ministries, departments, agencies, and hospitals. The objective is to ensure that these entities have access to appropriate international bandwidth capacity.
James Byaruhanga emphasized that technology itself has also undergone a significant transformation. He noted that the advancements have been substantial, transitioning from the 2G technology of two decades ago to the more sophisticated 5G technology today. Byaruhanga believes that the implementation of 5G technology will facilitate the seamless integration of artificial intelligence, enhancing various aspects of technology-driven solutions.
