Hajjat Namyalo Backs Sr. Mary Wasagali for Continued Public Service Deployment

The National Chairman’s Office (ONC) has thrown its weight behind continued deployment of Sr. Mary Wasagali in public service, with ONC National Coordinator Hajjat Hadijjah Namyalo recommending her to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in recognition of her contribution to the National Resistance Movement (NRM) and government programmes.

In a recommendation addressed to President Museveni, Hajjat Namyalo described Sr. Wasagali as a dedicated cadre whose leadership, integrity and commitment to party activities have made her an important asset to the NRM.

Hajjat Namyalo particularly highlighted Sr. Wasagali’s performance as a Presidential Bearer Elections Supervisor, a responsibility she said was executed with integrity, professionalism and strict adherence to party guidelines.

According to the ONC coordinator, Sr. Wasagali's contribution extends beyond electoral responsibilities. Her work as an ONC District Coordinator has, she noted, demonstrated her ability to coordinate government programmes, engage stakeholders and align party priorities with service delivery.

“Sr. Mary has been instrumental in sustaining party mobilisation, providing financial support to party activities and ensuring effective stakeholder engagement,” Hajjat Namyalo stated in her recommendation.

She further argued that cadres of Sr. Wasagali’s calibre are important in protecting and consolidating the gains made by the NRM over the years.

“I request Your Excellency to consider her for continued deployment in public service,” Hajjat Namyalo submitted.

Stakeholders welcome the recommendation

The recommendation has attracted support from several stakeholders who say Sr. Wasagali's record of service warrants consideration for continued deployment.

Former Uganda People's Movement (UPM) Chairman and former Kisoro Resident District Commissioner Victor Wanyoto commended Hajjat Namyalo for recognising Sr. Wasagali's contribution, describing her as an important asset to Bugisu and Eastern Uganda.

Wanyoto said Sr. Wasagali's work has contributed to the mobilisation and strengthening of the NRM structures in the region, particularly through her commitment to party programmes and ideology.

He also credited her contribution to the party's recent electoral performance in Eastern Uganda, saying her commitment has been evident in her engagement with communities and stakeholders.

Bamasaba cultural institution backs ONC position

The spokesperson of the Bamasaba Cultural Institution, Steven Masiga, also welcomed Hajjat Namyalo's recommendation, saying the ONC leadership had demonstrated an understanding of the kind of cadres required to support government programmes at the grassroots.

Masiga said the cultural institution has worked closely with both Hajjat Namyalo and Sr. Mary Wasagali in efforts to mobilise Bugisu's clan structures to participate in government programmes.

He explained that the cultural institution works through clan structures to encourage communities to take advantage of government initiatives aimed at improving livelihoods and service delivery.

“As a cultural institution, we have worked closely with Sr. Mary Wasagali and Hajjat Namyalo in mobilising Bugisu clan structures to participate in government programmes,” Masiga said.

He added that the clan system remains an important avenue for community mobilisation in Bugisu, noting that the region has a large population organised through clan structures.

A case for continued deployment

The endorsements come at a time when the NRM continues to emphasise grassroots mobilisation, effective implementation of government programmes and stronger engagement between political structures, cultural institutions and communities.

Supporters of Sr. Wasagali's continued deployment argue that her experience in electoral supervision, party mobilisation, stakeholder engagement and coordination of government programmes gives her a combination of skills that can be utilised in public service.

Hajjat Namyalo's recommendation therefore places Sr. Wasagali's record of service before President Museveni for consideration, particularly at a time when the government and the NRM are seeking to strengthen grassroots structures and improve community participation in government programmes.

For her supporters, the appeal is not simply about retaining an individual in public service, but about recognising cadres who have demonstrated commitment to party mobilisation, government programmes and community engagement.

The final decision on any further deployment, however, rests with the relevant appointing authorities.

For now, the strong backing from the ONC leadership, cultural representatives and other stakeholders has placed Sr. Mary Wasagali's record of service firmly in the spotlight, with supporters urging the President to consider her for another opportunity to serve the party and the country.
