In a spirited show of support for Ugandan women in sports, PostBank Uganda, in partnership with Crown Beverages Limited, hosted a press conference to honor and pledge support for the Uganda Gazelles Women's Basketball Team. The event brought together key stakeholders, including the team's management, players, and representatives from both PostBank and Crown Beverages Limited.

In her opening remarks, Priscilla Akora,

Head of Marketing at PostBank Uganda, warmly welcomed the attendees and acknowledged the incredible strides made by women in sports, despite the persistent disparities in recognition and support.

"We are honored to celebrate the Gazelles, who have flown the Ugandan flag high and broken the glass ceiling for women in sports and young girls," Akora stated.

Her remarks underscored the importance of corporate support in empowering women athletes and fostering a culture of excellence in sports.

In a significant gesture of support, PostBank Uganda reaffirmed its commitment to backing the Uganda Gazelles as they prepare for the highly anticipated FIBA Women's AfroBasket 2025 tournament. This commitment, made in partnership with Crown Beverages Limited, aims to provide the team with the necessary resources to excel on the continental stage.

"We have every confidence that the Gazelles will excel in the AfroBasket tournament and make Uganda proud," PostBank Uganda's Managing Director, Julius Kakeeto, declared.

In recognition of PostBank’s unwavering support, Ainematsiko Racheal Atuhairwe, Woman Commissioner of the Federation of Uganda Basketball Association (FUBA), presented a commemorative jersey to Kakeeto, in the presence of the talented Uganda Gazelles players.

The Uganda Gazelles have had an inspiring journey, recently clinching the Women’s AfroBasket Zone Five Qualifiers title after a stunning 74-63 victory over defending champions Egypt. This remarkable win secured their place at the 2025 Women's AfroBasket, set to take place from July 25 to August 3 in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire.

Their triumph in the qualifiers not only reaffirmed Uganda’s position as a basketball powerhouse in the region but also demonstrated the team's resilience and talent.

As preparations for the continental showdown intensify, two additional teams will be confirmed through wildcards in April, rounding off the 12-team field for the tournament.

So far, the teams that have secured their spots in the competition include:

Côte d'Ivoire (Hosts)

Nigeria (2023 Champions)

Senegal (2023 Runners-up)

Mali (2023 Bronze Medalists)

Rwanda (2023 Fourth-placers)

Cameroon (Zone 4 Qualifiers)

Uganda (Zone 5 Qualifiers)

Angola (Zone 6 Qualifiers)

Egypt (Wildcard)

Mozambique (Wildcard)

Two more teams will be granted wildcards to complete the lineup for the tournament.
