BUL Remain Unbeaten as NEC, Villa Strengthen Early UPL Push

BUL FC maintained their perfect start to the 2026/27 StarTimes Uganda Premier League season on Tuesday, September 15, after coming from behind to defeat Blacks Power 2-1 at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru.

On a busy Matchday Four, NEC FC also produced an emphatic 4-1 victory over URA FC at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo, while record champions SC Villa continued their unbeaten run with a 3-0 victory over newly promoted Kigezi HomeBoyz at Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku.

BUL complete perfect comeback

BUL went into the encounter against Blacks Power with both sides boasting three wins from their opening three league matches, setting up an early-season clash between two unbeaten teams.

Blacks Power appeared on course to maintain their flawless record when Oscar Otim gave them the lead in the 20th minute.

However, BUL responded strongly, with debutant Lawrence Olaboro restoring parity in the 38th minute after being set up by Derrick Byabachwezi.

Olaboro turned provider shortly after the restart, creating the opportunity for Simon Achidi, who struck 10 minutes into the second half to complete BUL's comeback.

Achidi's goal was his third of the campaign and proved decisive as BUL held on to claim their fourth consecutive victory.

The result left BUL as the only side among the two that entered Tuesday's fixture with perfect records to maintain a 100 percent start.

NEC climb to second

At Lugogo, NEC FC recovered from an early setback to beat URA FC 4-1 and move into second place in the developing league standings.

URA needed less than a minute to take the lead. Mikidad Ssenyonga found Isma Mugulusi, who calmly finished past NEC goalkeeper Hannington Sebwalunyo.

NEC responded in the 14th minute when James Jarieko finished after combining with Emmanuel Ajo.

The hosts then took control before the interval. 

Richard Basangwa put NEC ahead after Enrique Lubwama won possession and created the opportunity, before Lubwama himself made it 3-1 from a rebound after Ajo's effort had struck the crossbar.

Basangwa completed his brace 10 minutes into the second half, converting from another Lubwama assist to complete a convincing victory.

The Basangwa-Lubwama combination was central to NEC's attacking display, with the pair directly involved in three of the team's four goals.

Villa continue impressive run

At Wankulukuku, SC Villa registered their third consecutive victory by defeating Kigezi HomeBoyz 3-0.

Patrick Kakande opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 14th minute after he was brought down by Kigezi goalkeeper Norman Angunfindru. 

Just three minutes later, Aslam Ssemakula doubled Villa's advantage with a long-range strike.

The Jogoos maintained control of the contest before substitute Andrew Otim added the third goal late in the match.

The victory took Villa to 10 points from four matches, following an opening-day draw against Kitara FC and successive wins over URA, Express FC and Kigezi HomeBoyz. The club's official records show the same unbeaten sequence.

For Kigezi HomeBoyz, the defeat leaves the newly promoted side still searching for their first top-flight victory. They had, however, collected a point in their previous outing after holding KCCA FC to a goalless draw.

Early-season race takes shape

Tuesday's results have intensified the early-season battle at the top of the Uganda Premier League, with BUL setting the pace while NEC and Villa remain firmly in contention after strong Matchday Four performances.

With the international break approaching, the opening four rounds have already produced an early indication of the competitive nature of the 2026/27 campaign, with unbeaten runs, attacking partnerships and the emergence of newly promoted sides becoming some of the key talking points.

For BUL, the immediate priority will be maintaining their winning momentum after four straight victories, while NEC will look to build on their attacking display and Villa will seek to extend their unbeaten run when league action resumes.
