Kitara FC will on Sunday, October 25, 2026, face one of the biggest challenges in the club’s history when they take on Egyptian giants Al Ahly in the second leg of their CAF Confederation Cup Round of 32 tie at Cairo International Stadium.

The Royals, who are already in Egypt preparing for the decisive encounter scheduled for 7:00 PM, must overturn a 1-2 first-leg defeat to keep their continental ambitions alive and secure a place in the group stage for the first time in the club’s history.

The task is demanding, with Kitara needing a victory and enough goals to turn the tie around against one of Africa’s most decorated football clubs. However, head coach Wasswa Bbosa remains optimistic that his players can rise to the occasion and produce a memorable performance away from home.

Bbosa Backs His Players for Cairo Challenge

Kitara head into the return leg encouraged by their preparations in Egypt, with Bbosa reporting positive signs from the squad ahead of the encounter.

Speaking after the team’s final training session in Cairo, the coach said the players had adapted well to the trip and were motivated to fight for qualification.

“The trip to Cairo has gone well and we have had a good training session and a feel of the stadium. There’s lots of positivity; the players are motivated and ready to give a good game tomorrow and go through,” Bbosa said.

His comments underline Kitara’s determination to challenge the Egyptian side despite the setback suffered in the first leg at Hoima City Stadium.

For the Ugandan representatives, Sunday’s match presents an opportunity to demonstrate their competitiveness on the continental stage and move closer to achieving a historic milestone.

Royals Must Overcome First-Leg Disappointment

Kitara started the first leg brightly in Hoima, taking the lead through Gaddafi Wahab in the 30th minute.

Wahab finished from close range after a delivery from Martin Kizza, rewarding the hosts for their efforts and sending the home supporters into celebration. Kitara held on to their advantage until half-time, raising hopes of securing a positive result against the Egyptian visitors.

However, Al Ahly responded strongly after the interval, with Omar El Saiy and Ahmed Moustafa Zizou finding the net to hand the visitors a 2-1 victory.

The result left Kitara with work to do in Cairo, where they must produce a disciplined defensive display while taking advantage of their scoring opportunities.

Having already demonstrated that they can trouble Al Ahly, the Royals will hope to reproduce their first-half attacking intensity while avoiding the defensive lapses that allowed the Egyptians to turn the game around.

Kaddu Patrick Brings Cairo Experience Striker

Kaddu Patrick is expected to be an important figure in Kitara’s attacking plans, particularly because of his familiarity with the Cairo International Stadium.

Kaddu has previously played at the venue with the Uganda Cranes and during his time with Egyptian club Ismaily SC, experience that could prove valuable in a high-pressure continental fixture.

The forward insists, however, that his previous appearances in Cairo will count for little unless the entire team delivers a strong performance on Sunday.

“I’ve played at this venue before, so the environment is not new to me. But that was in the past. This is a new game and the whole team is set to give its best against Al Ahly,” Kaddu said.

Kaddu was also influential in the first leg, contributing to the attacking move that led to Wahab’s opening goal, with Martin Kizza providing the assist.

Bbosa will be hoping the striker can again use his movement, experience and attacking awareness to create problems for Al Ahly’s defence.

Kalema Expected to Lead the Goal Hunt

Another player Kitara will look to for inspiration is Jimmy Kalema, the club’s leading scorer in the competition with three goals.

Kalema’s ability to find the net could be crucial as the Royals attempt to overturn the first-leg deficit and keep their qualification hopes alive.

The forward was substituted in the second half of the opening encounter, but Bbosa will be looking for a strong contribution from him in the return leg.

With Kitara needing goals, Kalema’s finishing ability could become a decisive factor, particularly if the visitors manage to create early chances and put pressure on Al Ahly.

Wahab, Kizza and Kaddu also offer attacking options capable of unlocking the Egyptian defence, giving Bbosa several alternatives as he prepares his starting line-up.

The challenge will be to balance the need to attack with the discipline required to prevent Al Ahly from exploiting spaces at the back.

Team News: Two Players Ruled Out

Kitara travel into the decisive encounter with most of their squad available for selection.

Only Nicholas Kasozi and Karim Ndugwa are unavailable, leaving Bbosa with a largely fit squad from which to choose his team.

The availability of the remaining players provides the coach with flexibility as he considers the tactical approach needed to overcome the Egyptian side.

Kitara will need concentration across all departments, from the goalkeeper and defenders to the midfielders responsible for controlling possession and the forwards tasked with converting chances.

An early goal could boost the Ugandan side’s confidence and increase the pressure on the hosts, although the Royals must remain alert to Al Ahly’s counter attacking threat.

A Historic Opportunity for the Royals

For Kitara, Sunday’s encounter is about more than simply recovering from a first-leg defeat. Qualification would mark a significant achievement for a club seeking to establish itself among Uganda’s competitive representatives in African football.

The Royals earned their place in the Round of 32 after progressing past Somalia’s Mogadishu City Club, winning the tie 4-1 on aggregate.

That success gave Kitara an opportunity to test themselves against Al Ahly, one of the continent’s most established sides, and the return leg now offers another chance to make a statement.

Although the Egyptians carry a one-goal advantage into the match, Kitara have already shown in Hoima that they can score against their opponents. The challenge is to sustain that threat for longer while limiting Al Ahly’s opportunities.

Bbosa’s men will need composure, tactical discipline and clinical finishing if they are to leave Cairo with the result required to keep their Confederation Cup campaign alive.

With Kaddu’s experience, Kalema’s scoring record and the attacking contributions of Wahab and Kizza, Kitara have players capable of making a difference.

The Royals now face 90 minutes that could define their continental campaign. A strong performance in Cairo would not only revive their qualification hopes but also offer the club an opportunity to write a new chapter in its history.
