Gen. Katumba Wamala Ends 47-Year Military Journey with Gratitude

Minister of Public Service Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala has marked the completion of 47 years of military service to Uganda, describing the milestone as the closing of a significant chapter in a lifetime dedicated to serving the country.

In a message reflecting on his long career in uniform, Gen. Katumba said he completed 47 years of military service on 31 July 2026, describing the journey as one characterised by dedication, commitment and love for Uganda.

“47 years in uniform. 47 years of service to Uganda,” Gen. Katumba said.

The milestone marks nearly five decades of service in Uganda's security establishment, during which Gen. Katumba rose through the ranks to become one of the country's most prominent military officers before taking on senior responsibilities in government.

Reflecting on his journey, Gen. Katumba expressed gratitude to God, his comrades, the Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF) and the people of Uganda for giving him the opportunity to serve.

“As I close this chapter, I do so with deep gratitude to God, my comrades, the UPDF and the people of Uganda for the privilege to serve,” he said.

His message presents the completion of his military career not simply as the end of a professional journey, but as the conclusion of a major chapter of national service.

A lifetime in uniform
