Geoffrey Martin Kitakule Leaves Lasting Legacy of Service, Fellowship and Growth as Rotary District 9213 Governor

KAMPALA, Uganda – After a remarkable year at the helm of Rotary District 9213, Past District Governor Geoffrey Martin Kitakule has concluded his tenure, leaving behind a legacy built on selfless service, strengthened fellowship, membership growth and transformative community impact.

Guided by "Year of Service, Fellowship and Growth," Kitakule led thousands of Rotarians and Rotaractors across Uganda in implementing life-changing projects while reinforcing Rotary's core values of service above self, integrity, leadership and friendship.

As his tenure came to an end, Kitakule reflected on a year that demonstrated the extraordinary power of collective action and volunteerism.

"Thank you," he said in his farewell message.

"We have touched lives and transformed communities."

His words captured the essence of a Rotary year marked by collaboration, generosity and an unwavering commitment to improving the lives of vulnerable communities.

Rotary District 9213, which encompasses Uganda, forms part of the global Rotary movement that has served humanity for more than 120 years. Today, Rotary boasts more than 1.4 million members across over 200 countries and geographical areas. In Uganda alone, Rotary has maintained a strong presence for more than 60 years, delivering sustainable solutions in health, education, water and sanitation, environmental protection, maternal and child health, disease prevention, peacebuilding and economic empowerment.

Throughout his tenure, Kitakule consistently reminded members that Rotary's greatest achievements are never the work of individuals but of dedicated teams united by a common purpose.

"A Rotary year is never carried by one hand. It is built by many hearts choosing to serve, act, and stay committed when it mattered most."

He paid tribute to every Rotarian across the district whose dedication made the year's accomplishments possible.

"To every Rotarian across Rotary District 9213 who showed up, gave, and delivered impact, thank you. You made this year matter."

Under his leadership, Rotary clubs strengthened community outreach through projects that improved access to clean water, healthcare, education, environmental conservation and economic opportunities. The district also continued promoting peace initiatives, supporting mothers and children, fighting diseases and empowering young people through Rotaract and Interact programmes.

Membership development and fellowship were equally central to Kitakule's administration. Clubs were encouraged to grow, collaborate more closely and cultivate future leaders while nurturing the friendships that make Rotary unique.

Looking back on the journey, Kitakule described the relationships built during the year as one of his greatest blessings.

"If I look back at this Rotary year, one truth stands out. You were my ride or die friends. Not occasional. Not seasonal. Always."

He noted that fellow Rotarians remained united throughout moments of service, celebration and challenge.

"In service, in laughter, in challenges, you stayed."

Adding a light-hearted reflection, Kitakule recalled the camaraderie shared outside community service.

"We also shared those moments of joy celebrating Arsenal as Champions of England. But together, ride or die, we became something greater—Champions of Service."

As he formally handed over leadership, Kitakule expressed confidence that Rotary District 9213 is well-positioned to achieve even greater milestones in the years ahead.

"As I hand over, I do so with deep gratitude and confidence in what lies ahead. The story continues, stronger than before."

Summarising the achievements of the year, he simply stated:

"We served. We impacted. We made good happen."

His farewell message reflected the enduring spirit of Rotary—a movement that continues to inspire ordinary people to create extraordinary change through volunteer service.

Although his term as District Governor has concluded, Kitakule's contribution leaves a strong foundation upon which the incoming leadership will continue building. His emphasis on unity, friendship, accountability and service has further strengthened Rotary District 9213's commitment to improving lives across Uganda.

As the district embarks on a new Rotary year, the achievements realised under Geoffrey Martin Kitakule's stewardship stand as a testament to what can be accomplished when people unite in service. His leadership demonstrated that lasting impact is created not by one individual, but by thousands of committed volunteers working together to make communities healthier, stronger and more hopeful.

The journey, as Kitakule reminded fellow Rotarians, does not end with a change of leadership—it continues with renewed purpose and an enduring commitment to Service Above Self.
