dfcu Bank Earns Rotary Recognition for Expanding Impact in Healthcare and Community Development

KAMPALA, Uganda — dfcu Bank has been recognised by Rotary Uganda as one of the country's leading corporate partners in community development, in recognition of its growing commitment to delivering structured, impact-driven programmes that are transforming lives across Uganda.

The recognition was announced during a Rotary Uganda appreciation breakfast held in Kampala, bringing together Rotary District leaders, corporate partners and development stakeholders to celebrate a year of collaboration while exploring opportunities to deepen partnerships aimed at addressing Uganda's most pressing social challenges.

The event underscored the importance of strategic partnerships between the private sector and development organisations in delivering sustainable social impact. For dfcu Bank, it also marked another milestone in its journey of moving beyond traditional Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) towards long-term programmes that generate measurable and lasting change.

Partnership Built on Measurable Impact

Speaking during the event, Jimmy D. Mugerwa, Chairman of the Board of Directors at dfcu Limited, said the Bank has deliberately shifted its community investment strategy towards initiatives that prioritise accountability, measurable outcomes and long-term sustainability.

He noted that while many organisations continue investing in CSR and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) programmes, the emphasis has increasingly shifted to ensuring that these investments deliver tangible results for communities.

According to Mugerwa, Rotary has become one of dfcu Bank's most trusted development partners because of its strong governance systems, volunteer-driven implementation model and robust accountability mechanisms that ensure every contribution creates meaningful impact.

He explained that these structures give corporate partners confidence that resources invested in community programmes reach the intended beneficiaries while delivering measurable social returns.

Healthcare Emerges as Flagship Partnership

One of the most significant outcomes of the partnership between dfcu Bank and Rotary Uganda has been the establishment of a structured healthcare programme aimed at expanding access to quality medical services for underserved communities across the country.

Speaking on behalf of the Bank, Helena Mayanja, Head of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability at dfcu Bank, explained that what began as a commemorative initiative during the Bank's 60th anniversary celebrations has now evolved into one of the institution's flagship sustainability programmes.

She revealed that during dfcu Bank's 60th anniversary activities in 2024, employees participated in a staff-led engagement process that identified limited access to healthcare as one of the country's most urgent development challenges.

That exercise informed the Bank's decision to establish a long-term healthcare programme instead of one-off charitable interventions.

Medical outreach camps subsequently became a central pillar of dfcu's broader purpose of transforming lives and businesses through sustainable investment in communities.

Thousands of Ugandans Reached

The programme has already recorded significant achievements.

Its initial implementation in late 2025 reached more than 22,000 people living in underserved communities across Uganda, providing a wide range of essential healthcare services.

Building on that success, the partnership has expanded beyond routine medical outreaches to include specialised healthcare interventions.

Among the most impactful components has been the facilitation of life-saving cardiac surgeries for children, reflecting the Bank's commitment to supporting interventions that have life-changing outcomes for vulnerable families.

The initiative is currently being implemented under a structured three-year framework that brings together multiple partners working within a coordinated model focused on programme governance, performance monitoring and shared accountability.

The framework is designed to ensure continuity, scalability and long-term sustainability while enabling partners to measure impact more effectively.

Rotary Applauds Corporate Commitment

Rotary District 9213 Governor Geoffrey Martin Kitakule commended dfcu Bank and other corporate partners for supporting Rotary's mission of improving lives through service.

He noted that meaningful partnerships between the private sector and development organisations remain essential in expanding access to critical services and improving the effectiveness of community development programmes.

Kitakule observed that corporate support enables Rotary to extend its reach to more communities while implementing interventions that produce sustainable outcomes.

Broader Development Agenda

Beyond healthcare, dfcu Bank continues to support several other development initiatives implemented through its partnerships.

These include programmes promoting access to clean water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), education initiatives that strengthen learning opportunities, and environmental conservation projects aimed at promoting sustainable natural resource management.

The Bank says these investments reflect its broader commitment to creating inclusive economic and social development while contributing towards national development priorities.

A Model for Sustainable Corporate Citizenship

The recognition by Rotary Uganda reflects the growing appreciation of dfcu Bank's approach to corporate sustainability, which prioritises strategic partnerships, measurable impact and long-term community transformation over isolated philanthropic activities.

As Uganda continues to face challenges in healthcare, education, environmental protection and access to basic services, collaborations between financial institutions and development organisations are increasingly becoming critical in mobilising resources, expertise and innovation.

Through its partnership with Rotary Uganda, dfcu Bank is positioning itself not only as a financial institution but also as a key development partner committed to improving the quality of life for communities across the country.

With its structured three-year programme now underway and additional investments planned in healthcare and other social sectors, the Bank says it remains focused on scaling interventions that create measurable, lasting impact while empowering communities to build more resilient and prosperous futures.
