MP Aloysius Mukasa Hosts Thousands as Bobi Wine Storms Rubaga South After Nomination

Rubaga South Member of Parliament, Aloysius Mukasa, on Wednesday hosted thousands of enthusiastic supporters as he welcomed National Unity Platform (NUP) President and newly nominated presidential candidate, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, alias Bobi Wine, to his constituency in a massive post-nomination rally.

The event, held in Rubaga South, saw residents pour onto the streets of Nateete towards the play ground , draped in NUP colors, signaling unwavering support for Kyagulanyi following his official nomination by the Electoral Commission earlier in the day.

Mukasa, a close ally of the NUP leader, hailed the turnout as evidence of Rubaga South’s commitment to the struggle for change.

“Rubaga South has always been a stronghold of the people’s voice. Today, by standing with our president, we are affirming our readiness to push for a Uganda that works for every citizen,” Mukasa said, sparking loud cheers from the crowd.

Addressing the rally, Kyagulanyi thanked the people, all NUP MPs including Mukasa for mobilizing his constituents and praised the resilience of the people of Kampala, noting their central role in Uganda’s journey toward democratic transformation.

“This nomination is not just about Bobi Wine. It is about every Ugandan who is tired of corruption, poverty, and injustice. Together, we are building a new Uganda where every child has a future,” Kyagulanyi told the cheering supporters, who repeatedly chanted, “People Power, Our Power!”

The gathering also attracted local leaders, youth groups, and women mobilizers who pledged to take the NUP message door-to-door as campaigns intensify ahead of the 2026 general elections.

Despite the mammoth turnout, the rally remained largely peaceful, with police keeping a visible but restrained presence around the constituency.

The Rubaga South show of force underlined Kampala’s role as a battleground in the 2026 race, with Kyagulanyi seeking to consolidate his urban support base while stretching his campaign to the wider countryside.
