Council for Abavandimwe Endorses Museveni, Pledges Nationwide Support Ahead of 2026 Elections

The Council for Abavandimwe has reaffirmed its unwavering support for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in the forthcoming 2026 General Elections, pledging to mobilize its members across the country to secure him a decisive victory.

The development follows the Council’s earlier public endorsement of President Museveni as its flag bearer in the upcoming polls. Members of the community turned up in large numbers to escort him during his nomination at the Electoral Commission grounds in Lweza-Lubowa and later joined thousands of supporters at Kololo Independence Grounds for the post-nomination rally.

On Wednesday, 24th September 2025, during the inauguration of the head offices of Patriotism Clubs of Uganda, the Council expressed its appreciation to President Museveni with a symbolic gift—a special portrait—recognizing his contribution toward addressing the long-standing challenges of their people.

Speaking at the event, leaders of the Council for Abavandimwe hailed the President for “finding a lasting solution to the victimization and suffering” endured by their community for years. They particularly highlighted the positive impact of a recent Executive Order issued by President Museveni, which facilitated the issuance of national identity cards and passports to their members.

“As Council for Abavandimwe, we testify that our people are now being issued national IDs and passports. For that, we have resolved to vote and campaign for President Museveni,” a Council representative stated.

The Council further called upon its members across the country to actively participate in all campaign activities for President Museveni, urging them to mobilize communities and ensure he secures an overwhelming 81% victory in the upcoming elections.

This endorsement adds to the growing list of political, civic, and community organizations throwing their weight behind President Museveni as he seeks to extend his leadership under the National Resistance Movement (NRM). With nominations concluded, the President’s campaign is expected to intensify as various groups rally support ahead of the 2026 General Elections.
