NEC FC Host Lugazi FC as Diehards Target Perfect Start to 2026/27 Season
The Diehards return to league action full of confidence after securing an impressive 2-0 victory over neighbours KCCA FC in their opening fixture of the season.
KAMPALA — NEC FC will be aiming to maintain their perfect start to the 2026/27 StarTimes Uganda Premier League campaign when they host Lugazi FC in a Matchday Two encounter at the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo, on Tuesday.

The 'Diehards' return to league action full of confidence after securing an impressive 2-0 victory over neighbours KCCA FC in their opening fixture of the season.
NEC FC produced a disciplined and clinical performance in the Lugogo derby, with Richard Basangwa opening the scoring before Pius Obuya sealed the victory with a spectacular long-range effort.
The result handed NEC FC an ideal start to the new campaign and gave the team early momentum as they seek to establish themselves among the competitive sides in the Uganda Premier League.
Tuesday's fixture will, however, present another significant test, with Lugazi FC also arriving in Kampala on the back of an opening-day victory.
Both Teams Seek Back-to-Back Victories
Lugazi FC began their 2026/27 campaign with a 2-1 victory over league newcomers Kigezi HomeBoyz FC and will be determined to build on that performance.
The visitors will therefore head into the contest with their own ambitions of securing a second successive victory, setting up what promises to be a competitive battle between two teams that made winning starts to the season.
For NEC FC, the fixture provides an opportunity to make it six points from a possible six and continue the positive momentum generated by their victory over KCCA FC.
Playing in front of their home supporters at the MTN Omondi Stadium, the Diehards will be hoping to use home advantage to secure another important three points.
Manager Confident Ahead of Lugazi Test
Speaking ahead of the match, the NEC FC manager expressed confidence in the quality available within his squad.
“Lugazi FC is a league team. Most players have cut across from one team to another, they are the same. But NEC FC has top players, eligible and quality players who we shall use against Lugazi.”
The manager's comments underline NEC FC's belief that they possess the depth and quality required to compete strongly despite the challenge expected from their opponents.

With the season still in its early stages, NEC FC will be keen to build consistency and avoid allowing their opening-day victory to become an isolated result.
Injury Concerns for NEC FC
NEC FC will nevertheless enter the fixture without several players due to injury. Forward Fahad Bayo remains unavailable as he continues his recovery from a muscle strain. The striker is currently undergoing light training as part of his rehabilitation programme.
Defender Ibrahim Musa will also miss the encounter after sustaining a knee injury involving a partial tear of the posterior cruciate ligament (PCL). He remains in rehabilitation as he works towards full fitness.
Kagawa Ssenoga is another player unavailable for Tuesday's fixture because of injury.
Despite the absences, NEC FC have received a boost with the rest of the squad declared fit and available for selection.
The available players will now be expected to step up as the Diehards look to overcome their injury setbacks and maintain their winning momentum.
NEC FC Hold Upper Hand in Previous Meetings
The match will be the fifth meeting between NEC FC and Lugazi FC in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League.
NEC FC have enjoyed the better record in the previous four league encounters, winning three matches, while Lugazi FC have registered one victory.
That record gives the Diehards an advantage on paper, although both teams' winning starts mean past results are unlikely to determine the outcome of Tuesday's contest.
NEC FC will be hoping to extend their dominance in the fixture and record a fourth victory over Lugazi FC, while the visitors will be determined to improve their head-to-head record.
An Early Test of Ambition
Although it is only the second matchday of the campaign, the encounter presents an important opportunity for both sides to make an early statement.
For NEC FC, victory would maintain their perfect start and strengthen confidence within the squad following their impressive derby triumph over KCCA FC.
Lugazi FC, meanwhile, will be seeking to prove that their opening victory over Kigezi HomeBoyz was the beginning of a strong campaign.
With both teams entering the match on three points and in high spirits, supporters can expect an intriguing contest at Lugogo as NEC FC attempt to make it two wins from two.
