NEC MD, Lt. Gen James Mugira(L) receives Token of appreciation

The National Enterprise Corporation (NEC), the commercial arm of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), has been recognized for its outstanding contribution to the 44th Tarehe Sita Anniversary celebrations held earlier this year in Greater Masaka.

Lt Gen James Mugira, the Managing Director of NEC, on Wednesday received a token of appreciation from the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, in recognition of NEC’s unwavering support and generosity during the national celebrations.

The token of appreciation was officially presented by Brig Gen Michael Kibuye, the Director of Civil Military Cooperation (CIMIC), on behalf of the CDF, during a brief ceremony at NEC’s headquarters in Bugolobi, Kampala.

As part of its corporate social responsibility and commitment to the welfare of the defence community, NEC made a significant donation to support the UPDF’s outreach activities in Masaka. The items donated included mattresses, delivery beds, and scholastic materials, which were distributed to health facilities and schools across the sub-region.

The contribution not only enhanced service delivery in the host communities but also underscored the integral role NEC plays in advancing national development while supporting UPDF’s community-based initiatives.

While receiving the recognition, Lt Gen Mugira expressed profound gratitude to the CDF and the entire UPDF leadership for acknowledging NEC’s role in strengthening civil-military cooperation and supporting national causes.

“This recognition is a testament to the strong partnership between NEC and the UPDF. Our contribution was not just about the items donated, but about reaffirming our shared values of service, sacrifice, and nation-building,” Gen Mugira noted.

The gesture highlighted the importance of synergy between UPDF and its commercial arm in promoting socio-economic development, improving community welfare, and sustaining the legacy of Tarehe Sita – the day that commemorates the birth of the UPDF.

Beyond its contributions during commemorations, NEC continues to play a strategic role in Uganda’s development. The corporation engages in projects ranging from agro-industries, construction, and engineering, to health and education initiatives, positioning itself as a vital institution that bridges defence and development.

The recognition by the CDF therefore reaffirmed NEC’s place not only as a partner of the UPDF but also as a key stakeholder in Uganda’s broader national transformation agenda.
