Mukono, Uganda – Police in Mukono District have launched investigations into a tragic road accident involving a train and a bus carrying students of Mwebaze High School, Kakiri, which claimed one life and left several others injured.

The fatal crash occurred at approximately 6:45 a.m. on Friday at Namumira–Bukasa Village in Kyetume Parish, Nakisunga Sub-county, along the Katosi Road in Mukono District.

According to preliminary police reports, the bus was transporting students of Mwebaze High School to Jinja District for an educational trip when it collided with a train under circumstances that are still being investigated.

Police confirmed that one female passenger died on the spot as a result of the collision. Several other students sustained varying degrees of injuries and were immediately evacuated by emergency responders to Mukono General Referral Hospital and other nearby health facilities for treatment.

Security personnel and emergency teams swiftly responded to the scene to rescue the victims and manage traffic along the busy road. The accident caused panic among residents and road users as authorities worked to clear the scene and assist the injured.

Police have since secured the area and commenced investigations to establish the exact cause of the crash, including whether there were any mechanical failures, human error, or other factors that may have contributed to the incident.

The identities of the deceased and the injured had not yet been officially released by press time as authorities continued contacting relatives and compiling information on the victims.

The accident has once again raised concerns about safety measures at railway crossings and the need for heightened vigilance by motorists and transport operators, especially when transporting students and other vulnerable passengers.
