Bulambuli District, Uganda – Bulambuli District on Friday played host to a high-profile government delegation led by the Minister of Local Government, Hon. Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi, for the official launch of a nationwide anti-corruption and service delivery campaign aimed at strengthening accountability and improving public service delivery across the country.

The delegation was received by the Member of Parliament for Bulambuli Constituency, Hon. Biara Emmanuel Wepukhulu, at the Bulambuli District headquarters, where hundreds of residents, local leaders and government officials gathered for the highly anticipated event.

Among the distinguished guests in attendance were the Secretary-General of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), Hon. Twaha Fadhil, the State Minister for Local Government, Hon. Justine Nameere, several cabinet ministers, Members of Parliament, district leaders, senior security officials and other dignitaries.

The anti-corruption and service delivery campaign seeks to address the persistent challenges affecting service delivery in local governments, including the misuse of public funds, delayed implementation of government projects and poor accountability practices.

Speaking during the event, leaders emphasized that corruption remains one of the biggest obstacles to national development, depriving communities of essential services such as quality education, healthcare, roads and clean water.

Hon. Balaam Barugahara noted that the campaign is intended to promote transparency, strengthen monitoring mechanisms and encourage citizens to actively participate in demanding accountability from public officials.

"The government is committed to ensuring that every shilling allocated for development reaches its intended beneficiaries. This campaign will empower citizens and local leaders to fight corruption and improve service delivery at all levels," he said.

The Minister further stressed that effective service delivery is central to the government's development agenda and called upon district leaders to work closely with anti-corruption agencies and security organs to eliminate corrupt practices.

As host of the event, Hon. Biara Emmanuel Wepukhulu welcomed the government delegation to Bulambuli and commended the initiative, describing it as timely and necessary for promoting accountability and enhancing public confidence in government institutions.

He urged residents to embrace the campaign and actively monitor government programmes within their communities.

"Fighting corruption is a collective responsibility. We must all work together to ensure that public resources are used for the benefit of our people and that development projects are implemented effectively," Hon. Biara said.

The launch in Bulambuli forms part of a broader nationwide initiative that will be rolled out across districts to strengthen governance systems, improve public accountability and accelerate service delivery.

Residents and local leaders expressed optimism that the campaign would help address long-standing concerns regarding the management of public resources and ensure that government programmes achieve their intended impact.

The event also provided an opportunity for interaction between government officials and community members, with discussions focusing on ways of enhancing transparency, improving service delivery and promoting citizen participation in governance processes.

The nationwide anti-corruption and service delivery campaign is expected to traverse various regions of the country, reinforcing the government's commitment to fighting corruption and ensuring efficient delivery of services to all Ugandans.
