KAMPALA — The nomination of candidates seeking to contest in the National Resistance Movement (NRM) National Women’s Council primaries is underway at the party’s Electoral Commission offices in Kampala, as aspirants present their nomination documents ahead of the election process later today.

The nominations mark another important stage in the NRM’s ongoing process of constituting and electing leaders to the National Women’s Council and its structures across the country.

Four key positions are being contested at the national level, including National Women’s Council Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Publicity Secretary and Secretary for Finance.

Aspirants seeking the various positions are expected to undergo the nomination process in accordance with the guidelines issued by the NRM Electoral Commission before delegates proceed with the next stages of the electoral process.

The exercise comes ahead of the National Conference for the election of the National Women’s Committees, which is scheduled to take place on Thursday, September 3, and Friday, September 4, 2026.

The National Conference will bring together eligible delegates from different parts of the country to participate in the election of leaders who will steer the affairs of the NRM Women’s Council at the national level.

The National Women’s Council is an important structure within the party, providing a platform for women to participate in political mobilisation, leadership and the implementation of party programmes.

The ongoing nomination exercise has attracted attention from party members and women leaders, with aspirants seeking to secure the required clearance to contest for the influential positions.

Party officials are expected to ensure that the nomination process is conducted in line with the established electoral procedures, with emphasis on transparency and adherence to the party’s rules.

The election of the National Women’s Council leadership is also expected to complete a significant phase of the NRM’s internal women’s structures, following elections held at lower levels across the country.

The outcome of the national elections will determine the leaders who will head the NRM Women’s Council and coordinate women-focused political mobilisation and party activities at the national level.

As nominations continue in Kampala, attention will now shift to the National Conference on September 3 and 4, where delegates will elect the new leadership for the National Women’s Council.
