Welcome Back: Annet Among Thanks President Museveni for Mercy, Vows to Continue Serving Bukedea

KAMPALA, UGANDA — August 26, 2026: Rt. Hon. Annet Anitah Among, NRM'S Second National Vice Chairperson (Female), Bukedea District Woman Member of Parliament and former Speaker of the 11th Parliament, has expressed gratitude to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for what she described as an act of mercy and parental grace.

In a statement reflecting on recent developments, Among said she was thankful to Almighty God for the gift of life and freedom, while also extending her appreciation to the President for his decision to grant her mercy.

“I take this opportunity to thank the Almighty God for the gift of life and freedom. My profound and heartfelt appreciation goes to His Excellency, President Kaguta Museveni, for his unmatched parental grace and decision to grant me mercy,” Among said.

The former Speaker also acknowledged the role of Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), commending him for what she described as professionalism throughout the period.

“I also extend my gratitude to the Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, for his professionalism throughout this period,” she added.

Among's statement comes as she signals her intention to return her attention to her responsibilities as the elected representative of the people of Bukedea.

She said she looks forward to continuing to serve her constituents and remaining committed to the leadership of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).

“As the Woman MP for Bukedea, I look forward to continuing my work for my constituents and standing firm with our revolutionary leadership,” she said.

Renewed Focus on Bukedea

Among's remarks place emphasis on a renewed focus on her parliamentary and constituency responsibilities following the developments she referred to in her statement.

As the Bukedea Woman MP, she has continued to maintain a strong political presence in Teso Sub-region and at the national level. Her political career has included senior leadership responsibilities in Parliament, culminating in her service as Speaker during the 11th Parliament.
