Fuel Tanker Catches Fire on Mityana-Kampala Road, Traffic Disrupted

A fuel tanker caught fire early this morning on the Mityana-Kampala road near Kiwawu tea estate, causing significant disruption to traffic in the area. The incident has blocked half of the road, making it impassable for motorists.

According to SP Kananura Michael, the Chief Licensing Officer (CLO) from the Directorate of Traffic & Road Safety, police teams are on the scene securing the area and directing traffic as the fire brigade works to extinguish the blaze.

“The fire team responded swiftly and is working to contain the fire, preventing further damage to other road users. We urge travelers to exercise patience and follow instructions from traffic officers,” SP Kananura stated.

Authorities have advised motorists to avoid the area until the situation is fully under control and the road is cleared for safe passage. No casualties have been reported so far, and investigations are underway to determine the cause of the fire.

Motorists using the Mityana-Kampala route are encouraged to use alternative roads where possible as emergency responders continue to manage the situation. The public will be updated as soon as the road is deemed safe for travel.
