The Permanent Secretary in the Office of the President, Hajji Yunus Kakande, has called upon all Ugandans to participate in a nationwide three-day prayer programme organized ahead of the inauguration of President Yoweri Museveni.

The prayers, which begin on May 8 and will conclude on May 10, 2026, will be conducted in mosques and churches across the country as part of preparations for the President’s swearing-in ceremony scheduled for May 12 at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.

Speaking about the significance of the initiative, Haj Yunus Kakande said the prayer programme is intended to unite Ugandans in seeking divine guidance, peace, stability, and prosperity for the nation.

According to Kakande, the arrangement reflects Uganda’s national values and spiritual foundation as embodied in the country’s motto, “For God and My Country.”

“The prayers are meant to bring all Ugandans together regardless of religion, background, or political affiliation, so that we can collectively pray for continued peace, unity, and development in our country,” Kakande said.

He explained that the programme was carefully organized to accommodate different faith communities, with prayers commencing in mosques on Friday, May 8, followed by services in Seventh-day Adventist churches on Saturday, May 9, before culminating in nationwide church services on Sunday, May 10.

Kakande revealed that senior government officials and dignitaries have been assigned to various places of worship across the country to represent the government during the prayer sessions, further emphasizing the inclusive and national character of the exercise.

He noted that the government recognizes the importance of faith in strengthening national cohesion, especially at a time when many parts of the world continue to face instability and conflict.

“We continue to witness uncertainty and conflict in different parts of the world, including the Middle East. This reminds us that peace and stability should never be taken for granted. As Ugandans, we must remain united and continue praying for our country,” he said.

The Permanent Secretary also urged citizens to pray for good health, wisdom, and guidance for President Museveni as he prepares to begin another term in office.

In addition to the prayer programme, Kakande extended an open invitation to all Ugandans to attend the inauguration ceremony at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds, assuring the public that no invitation cards will be required.

“I want to invite all Ugandans to come and witness the inauguration ceremony. This is a national event for every citizen, and nobody requires an invitation card to attend,” he said.

He further disclosed that government has put in place extensive arrangements to ensure the comfort and safety of attendees, including adequate security, food, refreshments, and crowd management measures.

Preparations for the inauguration are already in advanced stages, with the Uganda People’s Defence Forces conducting rehearsals and ceremonial drills ahead of the event. Fighter jet fly-pasts and military displays are expected to form part of the celebrations during the swearing-in ceremony.

The inauguration is expected to attract high-profile dignitaries, religious leaders, diplomats, government officials, and thousands of citizens from across Uganda and beyond, marking a significant moment in the country’s political calendar.
