As the National Resistance Movement (NRM) kicks off its preparations for the 2026 general elections, Jackson Ntwatwa has officially declared his intention to contest for Member of Parliament (MP) for Nakifuma Constituency in Mukono District by picking nomination forms from the NRM Electoral Commission headquarters in Kyadondo.

Ntwatwa, a community leader and education advocate, expressed his desire to represent Nakifuma in Parliament with a vision rooted in practical service delivery and equitable development. Speaking shortly after acquiring the nomination forms on Wednesday, Ntwatwa emphasized education, infrastructure, and basic service delivery as his central focus areas.

“We have always been told that education is the key to success, but many children in Nakifuma have not been able to afford that necessity. This is why I set out to offer bursaries to those that needed a hand,” said Ntwatwa, highlighting his ongoing efforts to uplift youth through education.

In his campaign message, Ntwatwa promised to lobby for four essential public services if elected: improved road infrastructure, expanded access to electricity, safe water provision, and upgraded health facilities. He noted that these four pillars are critical to lifting the constituency out of poverty and enhancing the quality of life for residents.

“I promised my people that I will lobby four things this term—roads, electricity, water, and health facilities,” he reaffirmed, positioning himself as a grassroots-oriented leader with a results-driven agenda.

Ntwatwa’s expression of interest comes as the NRM officially launched its nomination process for the 2026 elections, inviting aspiring candidates to collect forms for various positions including parliamentary seats, district chairperson roles, and other key local government offices.

According to Dr. Tanga Odoi, Chairperson of the NRM Electoral Commission, the exercise commenced on June 2, 2025, at the party’s headquarters in Kyadondo and will continue until June 15. Official nominations are scheduled to take place on June 17.

“Any member vying for a parliamentary seat must pay a non-refundable fee of three million shillings,” Dr. Tanga told the press, confirming that the process had started smoothly and was progressing without disruptions.

This election cycle marks a critical phase in the country’s political calendar, with the NRM seeking to retain its dominance at all levels of government. The expression of interest period provides a platform for party loyalists, emerging leaders, and seasoned politicians to present their credentials for consideration under the NRM banner.

Jackson Ntwatwa’s candidacy has already begun generating attention in Nakifuma, particularly among youth and education stakeholders who credit him for sponsoring school fees and supporting community learning initiatives. Residents have lauded his inclusive approach and consistent engagement with the electorate over the past years.

His campaign is expected to focus on addressing infrastructure backlogs, especially the poor state of roads that hinder agricultural produce from reaching markets, the lack of stable electricity in remote areas, unsafe or distant water sources, and the urgent need for improved health services.

As the race to 2026 heats up, Ntwatwa joins a growing list of NRM aspirants hoping to transform their communities through active legislative roles. His message of service, access, and local development is expected to resonate deeply with voters in Nakifuma, many of whom continue to face socio-economic challenges.
