Lukwago Derick Nominated Unopposed Favourite as LC1 Race Heats Up in Nsasa, Kiira Municipality

Campaigns for Local Council I chairperson positions are gathering momentum in Kiira Municipality, Wakiso District, as contestants continue to formally register ahead of the countrywide polls later this month.

Among them is Derick Lukwago Salongo, who was nominated at Kiira Division Council in Bulindo, Kiira Municipality, to contest for the LC1 chairperson seat in Nsasa village on the National Resistance Movement (NRM) ticket.

Speaking shortly after his nomination, Lukwago said he has served as Nsasa's LC1 chairperson for the past 25 years and intends to remain in office for as long as residents continue to give him their mandate.

"I have been the chairperson for Nsasa village for 25 years, and I promise I will continue to serve the people of Nsasa as long as they give me the mandate to do so," Lukwago said.

Reflecting on his tenure, Lukwago noted that the nature of leadership at the village level has shifted significantly over the past two and a half decades.

"Twenty-five years ago, the issues we used to handle as LC1 were minor, such as witchcraft. Now we are active on the Parish Development Model and infrastructure development, as you can see from the road network today," he said.

He added that Nsasa has grown considerably during his time in office, now home to three international schools alongside other established institutions, as well as a coordinated security network spanning the village's 13 independent zones.

According to the Electoral Commission roadmap, elections for Local Council women representatives will take place on July 23, 2026, followed by LC1 chairperson elections nationwide on July 28, 2026. Voting will be conducted by lining up behind preferred candidates, under the supervision of Electoral Commission officials.

Campaigning for LC1 chairperson positions runs from July 20 to July 27, 2026, ahead of the July 28 polling day set for all LC1 chairperson races across the country.
