Senior NRM Leaders Intensify Grassroots Campaign for Leku Pilli

ADJUMANI: The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has intensified its village-based mobilisation campaign for the party’s flagbearer in the Adjumani West Constituency by-election, James Leku Pilli, with senior party leaders joining the candidate on the campaign trail.

The mobilisation drive continued across the constituency as NRM leaders moved closer to voters, urging them to remain united and turn out in large numbers to support Pilli in the September 17 by-election.

Among the senior party officials participating in the campaigns were NRM Vice Chairperson for Northern Region, Hon. Hamson Obua,

Director for Mobilisation Dr. Rosemary Sseninde Nansubuga,

and Senior Manager for Communications Rogers Mulindwa.

The leaders used the campaign engagements to mobilise NRM supporters and explain the importance of maintaining party unity as the constituency prepares to elect a new Member of Parliament.

They urged supporters to remain focused and work together to deliver victory for Pilli, while encouraging voters to participate actively in the electoral process.

The NRM team also called on supporters and residents of Adjumani West to turn up in large numbers for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s campaign rally scheduled for Tuesday, September 15.

The rally is expected to provide another major platform for the party leadership to mobilise support for Pilli ahead of the by-election.

The leaders further cautioned voters against mistakes on polling day, urging them to arrive at polling stations early and carefully follow the voting procedures to ensure their ballots are properly cast.

They emphasised the need for voters to take their time when marking their ballots in order to avoid spoiling them and potentially losing their votes.

The village-based campaign approach has seen the NRM team hold a series of rallies and mobilisation meetings in different parts of Adjumani West, taking the party's message directly to communities.

On Sunday, rallies were held at Oyuwi Primary School and Marinya in Esia Parish, Adropi Sub-county, as the campaign team continued its mobilisation drive across the constituency.

More campaign activities are expected to take place in other parts of Adjumani West in the remaining days before voters head to the polls.

The by-election follows the death of former Adjumani West MP Gen. Moses Ali, who passed away on July 18, 2026.

Pilli is campaigning on a platform that includes continuity of development programmes and building on the legacy of the late Gen. Moses Ali, a long-serving NRM leader and former representative of the constituency.

The NRM leadership has repeatedly called for party members to remain united behind the flagbearer as the election approaches, portraying the by-election as an opportunity for voters to maintain continuity in leadership and government programmes.

The Adjumani West electorate will vote on Thursday, September 17, 2026, in an election expected to attract significant attention from both the NRM and opposition political camps.

With only a few days remaining before polling, the competing candidates are stepping up their mobilisation efforts, while political parties and campaign teams seek to maximise their support across the constituency.

The NRM campaign team says its focus remains on grassroots mobilisation, voter awareness and ensuring that its supporters participate fully in the electoral process.
