Minister Magyezi Executes a Solar-powered Water System in Wakiso District
WAKISO-The Honourable Minister Raphael Magyezi of Local Government has commissioned a 100-million-shilling safe, solar-powered water system in Ddundu, Kyampisi Sub-county, Mukono District.
Saturday, this marks the fourth pilot project of its kind, following earlier installations in Wakiso District at Migadde Church of Uganda Primary School, Bukalango Charismatic Church in Kakiri Town Council, and Menvu Lutete in Nansana Municipal council. Each solar-powered water pump serves between 200 and 500 households, providing water for domestic use and enabling Parish Development Model (PDM) beneficiaries to use it for production.
The Minister commended the dedication of Ambassador Mukesh Kumar and his team for completing the project within the agreed two-week timeline. Urging the residents of Ddundu to safeguard the system, particularly ensuring the solar panels are not stolen, and encouraged them to fully utilize PDM funds, especially those who have not yet received the funds, now that water is readily available for their farms.
Ambassador Mukesh Kumar, the Regional Head for East Africa, revealed that they are piloting ten such projects and, once scaled up, they will plan to sponsor an additional 5,000 similar projects across the country.
These initiatives are supported by United Alliance for Sustainable Development Goals -Intergovernmental Organization (UnASDG-IGO) in partnership with K2 INFRAGEN Ltd India, MAAN PRATAP MOBILITIES-India ,GNDC and SunGen Power LLC of New Jersey USA which aim at promoting sustainable ecological development in alignment with all 17 Sustainable Development Goals.”
