The Ministry for Disaster Preparedness and Refugees plays a critical role in coordinating emergency response efforts, disaster risk reduction programs, and refugee management in Uganda, which remains one of the largest refugee-hosting countries in Africa.
The ministry oversees interventions related to floods, landslides, drought, disease outbreaks, and humanitarian crises affecting vulnerable communities across the country.
Hon. Engola’s appointment comes at a time when Uganda continues to face recurring climate-related disasters in several regions, including flooding, prolonged drought, and displacement of communities. His leadership is expected to strengthen preparedness measures, improve coordination among humanitarian agencies, and enhance support to affected populations.
A seasoned legislator and experienced public servant, Hon. Engola has represented Erute South Constituency in Parliament and has previously served in different government roles.
