NRM Injects Shs30 Million into MK 52nd Birthday Run as Hon. Amb. Barbara Nekesa Oundo Rallies Ugandans for National Cause

KAMPALA, April 22, 2026 — The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) has extended financial and material support worth Shs30 million towards the upcoming MK 52nd Birthday Run, in a significant boost aimed at increasing participation and mobilizing citizens around patriotism and community service.

The contribution was announced by the NRM Secretary General, Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong, who personally added Shs10 million to the initiative. Speaking during a visit to the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) Secretariat on Wednesday, Todwong commended the organizers for spearheading what he described as a unifying national event.

He emphasized that the run plays a vital role in bringing together especially the youth, fostering a sense of patriotism, volunteerism, and shared national values. According to Todwong, such initiatives go beyond celebration, serving as platforms for strengthening social cohesion and encouraging civic responsibility.

The event is held in honor of Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces, whose 52nd birthday it marks. Todwong described the General as a role model to many young Ugandans, noting that his leadership journey reflects discipline, resilience, and commitment to national service.

He further called upon NRM members, supporters, and the general public to participate in large numbers during the run scheduled for this Sunday, revealing that the party will field a delegation of senior leaders as part of its official involvement.

In a related development, the NRM National Treasurer, Hon. Amb. Barbara Nekesa, led a high-level delegation from the party secretariat to the PLU headquarters later in the day. Accompanied by top party officials, Nekesa lauded the Patriotic League of Uganda for its continued efforts in promoting patriotism, democratic values, good governance, and socio-economic transformation.

She highlighted the growing partnership between the NRM and PLU, describing it as instrumental in advancing Uganda’s development agenda. Nekesa also appreciated PLU’s support during the recent general elections, noting that such collaboration contributed to the NRM’s strong performance nationwide.

Reaffirming the ruling party’s commitment to sustained cooperation, Nekesa underscored the importance of joint efforts in driving national transformation. She urged supporters of both NRM and PLU to take part in the birthday run, not only as a celebratory event but also as an opportunity to contribute to humanitarian causes.

Over the years, the MK Birthday Run has evolved into a prominent fixture on Uganda’s social calendar, attracting participants from across the country.

Beyond celebration, the event has become a platform for mobilizing resources and raising awareness for various community-based initiatives, reinforcing its role as both a patriotic and philanthropic undertaking.
