President Museveni Addresses Kagadi Rally, Pledges Skills Training and Intensified Wealth Creation in Bunyoro

Kagadi DistrictPresident Yoweri Kaguta Museveni held a major campaign rally this afternoon at the Muhooro BCS Playground in Kagadi District, marking the fourth day of his campaign tour of the Bunyoro sub-region, where he reaffirmed the National Resistance Movement (NRM)’s development record and laid out his vision for wealth creation, jobs, and national unity.

Addressing thousands of supporters, local leaders, religious figures, youth and women groups, President Museveni presented the NRM Manifesto, highlighting what he described as the seven key contributions the NRM has made to the “House of Uganda” over the last four decades. He noted that peace, stability, infrastructure development, improved social services, economic transformation, regional integration, and sovereignty have formed the foundation upon which Uganda’s progress has been built.

The President commended religious leaders in Kagadi and the wider Bunyoro region for working together across denominations to promote unity and peaceful coexistence. He cautioned against sectarianism, stressing that divisions based on religion, tribe or politics only weaken communities and slow national development.

“Sectarianism adds nothing to development. What helps our people is unity, discipline and focusing on wealth creation,” the President said.

Wealth Creation at the Centre

President Museveni placed strong emphasis on household wealth creation, urging Ugandans to make productive use of the land they have. He explained the government’s four-acre model as a practical pathway out of poverty for families with small land holdings, encouraging intensive farming that combines food crops, cash crops, livestock and fruit farming.

For those with larger tracts of land, the President advised investment in enterprises with high returns such as tea growing, ranching and cotton production, which he said are well suited for the Bunyoro sub-region.

“Land should not be idle. Even small land, if used properly, can transform a family. Wealth does not come from politics alone; it comes from production,” he said.

Jobs Through Skills and Talent

On the issue of employment, President Museveni challenged the long-held belief that jobs only come from offices or government employment. He reminded the audience that before colonial administration, Ugandans depended on skills, craftsmanship and talent to earn a living.

He reiterated the government’s focus on skilling the youth as a sustainable solution to unemployment and announced plans to establish another skilling hub in southern Bunyoro, noting that the existing facility in Masindi is too far for many young people in Kagadi and neighboring districts.

“Jobs are created by skills and talent. That is why we are investing in skilling hubs so that our young people can learn practical skills and create their own employment,” Museveni said, drawing applause from the crowd.

The rally was attended by NRM leaders from Kagadi District and the wider Bunyoro sub-region, who pledged support for the President and the party’s agenda. Several speakers highlighted government interventions in roads, electricity, education and agriculture, saying these have started to improve livelihoods in the area.

As he concluded his address, President Museveni called on residents to support the NRM, maintain peace during the campaign period, and focus on productive activities that improve household incomes.

The Kagadi rally formed part of the President’s wider Bunyoro tour, where he continues to popularise the NRM Manifesto, assess local development concerns, and mobilise support ahead of the next electoral cycle.
