KAMPALA – Leaders from Eastern Uganda have welcomed the appointment of Hon. Twalla Fadil as the new General Secretary of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), describing his elevation as a significant milestone that will strengthen grassroots mobilisation, youth empowerment, and support for the National Resistance Movement (NRM).
The leaders made the remarks during the inauguration ceremony of Hon. Twalla Fadil as PLU General Secretary held at the organisation's headquarters in Naguru on Wednesday, June 24, 2026.
Among those who congratulated the new General Secretary were the Minister of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives, Hon. Sanjay Tanna, and the Member of Parliament for Tororo Municipality, Hon. Shyam Jay Tanna, both of whom expressed confidence in Fadil's leadership and ability to transform the organisation.
Hon. Sanjay Tanna described Fadil's appointment as a positive development not only for PLU but also for the country's political mobilisation efforts.
"I want to congratulate my brother Hon. Fadil Twalla on his appointment as the General Secretary of PLU, who hails from the Sebei sub-region, which is a region where I also operate some of my businesses. We have had interactions with him and have been working together in the mobilisation for His Excellency President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in the just concluded general elections," he said.
According to the minister, Fadil's leadership qualities make him well suited for the demanding role of coordinating the affairs of the rapidly growing political pressure group.
"This is not only a breath of fresh air into the leadership of PLU, but considering Hon. Twalla's personality—he is extremely humble, social and hardworking—I expect the Secretariat to now transform itself into a pro-people movement. We should therefore expect mass mobilisation for the benefit of this country," Sanjay Tanna added.
His remarks reflected optimism that the new leadership would deepen public engagement and strengthen PLU's organisational structures across the country.
Hon. Shyam Jay Tanna also welcomed the appointment, saying Eastern Uganda had every reason to celebrate the emergence of one of its own into one of the most influential positions within PLU.
"It is a blessing to have a PLU General Secretary, Hon. Twalla Fadil, who comes from our region, Eastern Uganda. PLU therefore becomes a very powerful pressure group within NRM and with President Museveni and Gen. Muhoozi, the Chairman of PLU, we will use this platform to solve problems that have not been solved, especially for the youth in the area I represent," he said.
He noted that the appointment presents an opportunity to push for practical solutions to youth unemployment, economic empowerment and community development through coordinated mobilisation and engagement with government programmes.
Fadil's appointment has generated excitement among PLU supporters, particularly in the Sebei and wider Eastern Uganda region, where many view his elevation as recognition of the region's contribution to national politics and mobilisation.
Known for his grassroots approach and accessibility, Fadil has built a reputation as a dedicated mobiliser and advocate for community engagement. Supporters believe these qualities will be instrumental in expanding PLU's reach as it continues to consolidate its structures nationwide.
The inauguration also underscored PLU's commitment to strengthening its organisational leadership ahead of intensified mobilisation activities. Leaders at the ceremony expressed confidence that under Fadil's stewardship, the Secretariat will focus on promoting patriotism, accountability, youth inclusion and socio-economic transformation.
The endorsements from Hon. Sanjay Tanna and Hon. Shyam Jay Tanna add to the growing support for the new General Secretary, with many leaders expressing hope that his tenure will inject renewed energy into the organisation and reinforce PLU's role in supporting government programmes and national development initiatives.
As PLU enters a new chapter under its reorganised Secretariat, expectations remain high that Hon. Twalla Fadil's leadership will enhance grassroots mobilisation, strengthen collaboration with communities across the country and contribute to advancing the movement's vision of patriotism, unity and national transformation.
