Wanyoto Intervenes to Reconcile Rival PLU Mobilisation Factions in Bugisu Ahead of Muhoozi Baraza

Counsel Paul Mugoya Wanyoto has intervened to reconcile two rival mobilisation factions of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) in the Bugisu sub-region, seeking to bring their activities under a common arrangement ahead of the October 24 endorsement Baraza for Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba at Mbale Cricket Ground.

The intervention follows disagreements between two groups led by Hajji Isma Mukakandi and Brian Mauso, which had reportedly been conducting parallel mobilisation activities in preparation for the planned gathering.

The differences threatened to complicate coordination among local organisers as the regional team intensified preparations for the event, which is intended to endorse Gen. Kainerugaba, the PLU national chairman, as a potential successor to President Yoweri Museveni.

Wanyoto convened a reconciliation meeting at his home in Nabweya, Mbale Northern City Division, bringing representatives of the two factions together to address their differences and explore a common approach to mobilisation.

During the meeting, both camps reportedly agreed to set aside their disagreements and cooperate in preparations for the October 24 Baraza.

The meeting marked an attempt to end the parallel mobilisation efforts and consolidate the groups' activities within the broader Bugisu regional organising framework.

Wanyoto Calls for Cooperation

Wanyoto urged the rival factions to put aside their differences and concentrate on their shared objective of preparing for the forthcoming gathering.

His intervention was aimed at easing tensions between the two groups and encouraging cooperation among individuals involved in organising the event across the Bugisu sub-region.

The reconciliation also seeks to strengthen communication and coordination between the competing mobilisation teams, allowing them to work towards a common organisational goal rather than operate separately.

Although the two factions had been pursuing the same broad objective of mobilising supporters for the Baraza, their parallel activities highlighted coordination challenges within the local mobilisation structure.

The reported agreement to work together now provides an opportunity for the groups to harmonise their activities as preparations enter a crucial stage ahead of the scheduled gathering.

Preparations Gather Pace for October 24 Baraza

The October 24 event at Mbale Cricket Ground is expected to attract PLU coordinators, political leaders and supporters from across Bugisu.

Organisers are preparing for a gathering centred on the proposed endorsement of Gen. Kainerugaba, who serves as PLU national chairman, as a potential successor to President Museveni.

The event is part of political mobilisation surrounding discussions about leadership succession and the role of the PLU in Uganda's political landscape.

For the Bugisu regional organising committee, bringing the rival factions together is an important organisational step as it seeks to coordinate activities ahead of the gathering.

A unified mobilisation structure could help streamline communication, clarify responsibilities and reduce duplication of efforts among the different teams involved in preparations.

However, the extent to which the reconciliation will translate into coordinated activities on the ground will depend on the implementation of the agreement reached by the two factions.

Unity Remains Central to Mobilisation Efforts

The reconciliation comes at a time when organisers are seeking to demonstrate cooperation among local PLU mobilisation teams ahead of the Baraza.

The reported commitment by the Mukakandi and Mauso camps to work together signals an effort to move beyond their differences and focus on preparations for the event.

Their cooperation will be important in determining how effectively the regional team coordinates its activities and engages supporters across the sub-region.

Wanyoto's intervention places emphasis on dialogue as a means of resolving disagreements within the mobilisation structure, with the aim of ensuring that competing interests do not undermine preparations for the planned gathering.

As October 24 approaches, attention will turn to whether the two groups can maintain their commitment to cooperation and operate within a coordinated framework.

The Baraza is expected to bring together PLU supporters and political actors in Mbale, with organisers seeking to demonstrate their level of grassroots organisation and participation in the Bugisu sub-region.

The reconciliation meeting has therefore opened a path towards closer cooperation between the two camps, although the success of the effort will ultimately be reflected in how they work together in the days leading up to the event.
