Bamasaaba Cultural Institution Receives University Scholarships, Calls on Students to Apply

Scholarships range from full tuition support to 70 per cent assistance, says spokesperson

Mbale City, Uganda — The Bamasaaba Cultural Institution has announced that several universities and other higher education institutions have offered scholarship opportunities to the institution for distribution to eligible students seeking to pursue various academic and professional programmes.

The institution's spokesperson, Hon. Steven Masiga, said the scholarships are available to members of the public interested in furthering their education and urged prospective students to contact the Bamasaaba Cultural Institution for detailed information on the available opportunities.

According to Masiga, the scholarships have been secured through engagements between the cultural institution and various universities and are intended to provide students with an opportunity to pursue higher education with reduced financial burdens.

Among the institutions that have so far allocated scholarship opportunities to the Bamasaaba Cultural Institution are Kampala International University, Livingston University, Seta University, Ibanda University and the East African Institute of Tourism.

Masiga said the scholarships do not have a uniform financial package, explaining that the level of support depends on the individual university and the particular programme being offered.

The available opportunities range from full scholarships to scholarships covering up to 70 per cent of the required support, according to the terms provided by the respective institutions.

More information on courses expected

Masiga said the cultural institution is working to obtain comprehensive information about the courses and programmes covered under the different scholarship arrangements.

He said he intends to make courtesy visits to some of the participating universities to obtain detailed briefings on the courses available, admission requirements and other conditions attached to the scholarship opportunities.

“At an appropriate time, I will pay courtesy visits to some of the universities for detailed briefing on the courses availed under the scholarships. If necessary, we shall profile course by course in subsequent bulletins,” Masiga said.

The planned engagements are expected to enable the cultural institution to provide prospective beneficiaries with accurate information on the programmes available at each institution.

Students will consequently be able to identify courses that correspond with their academic qualifications, career interests and the specific conditions attached to each scholarship.

Institution cautions against scholarship fraud

The Bamasaaba Cultural Institution has also cautioned prospective beneficiaries against individuals who may attempt to solicit money from applicants in exchange for scholarship opportunities.

Masiga emphasized that the cultural institution will distribute the scholarships according to the terms and conditions communicated by the respective universities.

“As a cultural institution, we issue those scholarships to the public using the prevailing terms as given by the universities. Nobody should be asked for any money,” he said.

He added that beneficiaries will receive the scholarships in accordance with the requirements established by the different universities.

The clarification is intended to protect students and their parents or guardians from possible fraudsters who could take advantage of the demand for educational opportunities.

Prospective beneficiaries have therefore been encouraged to verify all information directly with the Bamasaaba Cultural Institution or the respective university before making any payments or other commitments.

Masiga urged students who are interested in pursuing university or other professional studies to take advantage of the opportunities and seek information from the cultural institution.

He said the institution will continue communicating details about the scholarships as more information becomes available, including the courses covered, scholarship percentages and other requirements.
