IUEA Wins Two Platinum Awards at East Africa Brand Quality Awards
IUEA received the Quality Excellence Awards for Best Private Technology University in East Africa and Best Private Innovative Chartered University in East Africa.

The International University of East Africa (IUEA) has won two platinum awards at the sixth edition of the East Africa Brand Quality Awards (EABQA), strengthening its recognition as a private university focused on technology, innovation and industry-oriented education.

The university received the Quality Excellence Awards for Best Private Technology University in East Africa and Best Private Innovative Chartered University in East Africa at a ceremony held at Hotel Africana in Kampala on Friday.

The awards recognise IUEA’s efforts to integrate technology and innovation into higher education while equipping students with the knowledge and practical skills needed to compete in an increasingly technology-driven job market.

Speaking at the awards ceremony, IUEA Vice Chancellor Prof. Emeka Akaezuwa reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to investing in technology and developing academic programmes that respond to the changing demands of industry.

Akaezuwa said the university remained focused on preparing graduates for the evolving employment landscape, where technological advancement, innovation and relevant professional skills are becoming increasingly important.

In a statement following the recognition, IUEA said the awards reflected its continued investment in technology and innovation, as well as its commitment to producing graduates who are prepared to meet the expectations of employers and contribute to economic development.

The university’s recognition in the two categories highlights the growing importance of technology-oriented education and innovative approaches to learning in preparing young people for employment and entrepreneurship.

Awards recognise quality and innovation

The East Africa Brand Quality Awards are held annually to recognise brands and organisations for excellence in quality, reliability and consumer trust.

The awards are organised in partnership with organisations including ALCONEXT and the UK-based Chartered Quality Institute.

According to the organisers, the selection process begins with public nominations, followed by an evaluation conducted by a panel of judges.

This year’s edition was held under the theme, “Global Visionaries of Quality: Pioneering Sustainable Innovations, Advancing Technology and Value Addition.”

The organisers said the awards attracted 370 brands from nine countries across the region and beyond, including Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Somalia and Ethiopia.

The participation of organisations from these countries provided a regional platform for recognising institutions and businesses that demonstrate a commitment to quality, innovation and value creation.

For IUEA, winning in two categories places the institution among the organisations recognised for their contribution to technology and innovation in East Africa’s higher education sector.

Building on previous recognition

The latest awards add to IUEA’s record of recognition at the East Africa Brand Quality Awards.

According to the university, it was named Best Private University in East Africa at the 2021 edition before receiving recognition as the Most Innovative University in East Africa in 2024.

The two platinum awards won this year further reinforce the institution’s focus on innovation and its ambition to strengthen its position in the regional higher education market.

The recognition also comes amid increasing attention to the role universities play in addressing skills gaps, supporting technological advancement and preparing graduates for changing labour market requirements.

As industries increasingly adopt digital technologies and new approaches to production and service delivery, higher education institutions are under pressure to ensure their programmes remain relevant to employers and emerging career opportunities.

IUEA’s stated emphasis on technology, innovation and industry-aligned programmes reflects this broader shift towards education that combines academic knowledge with practical and professional competencies.

About IUEA

The International University of East Africa was founded in 2010 and admitted its first students in 2011.

Its main campus is located in Kansanga, a suburb south-east of Kampala’s central business district.

The private university offers higher education programmes and has positioned technology and innovation among its institutional priorities.

With the latest recognition, IUEA will seek to build on its previous achievements while continuing to respond to the changing needs of students, employers and the wider economy.

The two platinum awards mark another milestone in the university’s pursuit of recognition for quality and innovation, while highlighting the growing competition among East African higher education institutions to provide relevant, technology-driven education.
