Hon. Amb. Barbara Nekesa Oundo Rallies Busia Behind NRM as Speaker Anita Among Outlines New Development Plans

Busia, Uganda — The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Anita Among, who also serves as the National Resistance Movement (NRM) 2nd National Vice Chairperson (Female), joined residents of Busia District for vibrant NRM victory celebrations, marking the party’s strong performance in the recently concluded general elections.

The celebrations were organised by the NRM National Treasurer, Hon. Ambassador Barbara Nekesa Oundo, together with district party leaders and grassroots mobilisers, drawing hundreds of supporters from across Busia.

Addressing jubilant crowds, Speaker Among expressed gratitude to the people of Busia for overwhelmingly voting President Yoweri Museveni and NRM flagbearers at various levels. She commended the electorate for demonstrating political maturity by maintaining peace and calm throughout the election period.

“I want to thank the people of Busia for trusting President Museveni and the NRM once again. Your discipline and commitment to peace before, during and after the elections is commendable and reflects your desire for development,” Among said.

She highlighted the party’s improved electoral performance in the district, noting that President Museveni secured 65 percent of the vote in Busia, up from 46 percent in the 2021 elections—an achievement she attributed to effective grassroots mobilisation and renewed confidence in the NRM government.

Among assured residents that their support would translate into tangible development outcomes in the new term. She revealed that government plans are underway to establish a skilling centre and an industrial park in Busia District, initiatives aimed at addressing unemployment and boosting household incomes.

According to the Speaker, the planned facilities will prioritise local labour, particularly the youth and women, equipping them with practical skills and employment opportunities to participate meaningfully in industrial growth.

“We want our people to benefit directly from government programmes. The skilling centre will prepare our youth with hands-on skills, while the industrial park will create jobs and stimulate local economic activity,” she said.

Host of the celebrations, Hon. Amb. Barbara Nekesa Oundo, thanked Speaker Among for standing with the people of Busia and reaffirmed the district’s commitment to supporting the NRM agenda. She urged residents to remain united and continue backing government programmes aimed at transforming livelihoods.

District party leaders echoed similar sentiments, pledging to work closely with the central government to ensure that promised projects are delivered and that Busia remains a stronghold of peace, unity and development.

The Busia celebrations formed part of post-election thanksgiving activities being held across the country by NRM leaders to appreciate supporters and consolidate party cohesion ahead of the new political term.
