Bugisu PLU Mobilisation Gains Momentum as Sironko Leaders Prepare for October 24 MK 2031 Baraza

The Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) mobilisation drive in Bugisu Sub-region has gained momentum following a meeting between the Bugisu PLU mobilisation team and local leaders from Sironko District to coordinate preparations for the October 24 endorsement Baraza for Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba at Mbale Cricket Grounds.

The meeting brought together LC3 chairpersons, LC2 chairpersons, LC1 chairpersons and National Resistance Movement (NRM) village chairpersons, with discussions focusing on grassroots mobilisation, coordination of local leadership structures and encouraging residents to attend the planned gathering.

The engagement forms part of efforts by PLU mobilisation leaders to strengthen support for the proposed MK 2031 political campaign, with Sironko identified as a key district in the wider Bugisu mobilisation strategy.

The organisers said the meeting was intended to harmonise mobilisation efforts from village to district level and ensure that local leaders communicate a common message ahead of the Baraza.

Difee tasks local leaders with grassroots mobilisation

Haji Difee Abdullah, chairman of the organising committee for the Bugisu Baraza and chairman of NRM Sironko Town Council, called on local leaders to take responsibility for mobilising residents in their respective communities.

Addressing the meeting, Difee said the leaders at village and sub-county levels were central to the success of the mobilisation exercise because of their direct contact with residents.

“My people of Sironko, I am your son. I am Chairman NRM Sironko Town Council and I am Chairman Organizing Committee for this Bugisu Baraza. I called you because I know you. You are the real mobilizers on the ground,” he said.

He urged the leaders to return to their respective communities, including Budadiri, Sironko Town, Bugusege and other sub-counties, to inform residents about the October 24 gathering.

Difee challenged each leader to mobilise at least 10 people to attend the event, emphasising the importance of collective participation in demonstrating Sironko's organisational capacity.

“Today I give you duty — Go back to your villages in Budadiri, Sironko Town, Bugusege and all sub-counties. Tell them 24th October is our day to endorse Gen MK. Bring 10 people each. And remember, Bugisu is enough for us all,” he said.

His remarks placed grassroots leadership at the centre of the preparations, with local council leaders expected to use their established community networks to spread information about the Baraza.

Mukankadi calls for region-wide participation

Haji Isima Mukankadi Walujo, the Bugisu PLU coordinator responsible for the six districts and one city in the sub-region, described Sironko as a critical component of the mobilisation campaign.

Mukankadi urged local leaders to reach different groups in their communities, including young people, women and boda boda riders, arguing that the mobilisation message should extend beyond established political structures.

“Sironko is the heart of Bugisu. My job is to make sure every village hears about MK. Sironko must not be left behind. Tell the youth, tell the mothers, tell the boda riders — MK is for everyone,” he said.

He expressed confidence that the district could register a substantial turnout at the October 24 event and encouraged leaders to intensify their mobilisation activities in the days leading up to the gathering.

The coordinator's message underscored the organisers' intention to build a broad mobilisation network across Bugisu, with each district and city expected to contribute to the overall turnout.

Publicity team targets radio, markets and social media

Kashimente Shaban, head of publicity for PLU in Bugisu, outlined plans to increase the visibility of the mobilisation campaign through radio, WhatsApp groups, markets and other communication channels.

He urged local leaders to document their activities through photographs and short videos that could be shared on social media to publicise the district's preparations.

“From today, Sironko will trend. Every radio, every WhatsApp group, every market will talk about 24th. But I need you — When you mobilize, take a photo, record a small video saying ‘Sironko is ready’ and send to me. I will post it and Kampala will see,” Shaban said.

The proposed publicity strategy is intended to amplify grassroots mobilisation beyond individual villages and communicate the level of preparedness in Sironko to audiences across Bugisu and the wider country.

The emphasis on digital communication also reflects the organisers' plans to combine traditional community-based mobilisation with social media outreach ahead of the gathering.

RDC assures leaders on security arrangements

Sironko Resident District Commissioner Denis Ephraim Balwanilegha also addressed the meeting, assuring local leaders that the October 24 Baraza was legal, peaceful and had been cleared by security organs.

He encouraged the leaders to proceed with their mobilisation activities without fear, while reinforcing the importance of maintaining peace and order during the preparations and the event itself.

The assurance was intended to address concerns among local leaders and encourage coordinated preparations ahead of the gathering at Mbale Cricket Grounds.

Magolo urges leaders to put Bugisu first

Hon. John Faith Magolo, identified by the organisers as a key PLU figure in Bugisu, called on LC3, LC2 and LC1 chairpersons to demonstrate patriotism and prioritise the interests of the region.

Magolo urged the leaders to strengthen their coordination and take an active role in preparing for the Baraza, arguing that effective organisation at the grassroots level would be important in determining the district's participation.

He emphasised that organised leadership structures were essential for translating political mobilisation plans into action, urging Sironko leaders to position the district among the best-organised areas in Bugisu.

Local leaders pledge to mobilise residents

The LC3, LC2 and LC1 chairpersons who attended the meeting welcomed the mobilisation message and pledged to return to their communities to encourage residents to participate in the October 24 gathering.

According to the organisers, the leaders expressed readiness to conduct house-to-house mobilisation and coordinate activities within their respective administrative areas.

Their commitments are expected to form part of the final mobilisation phase, as the organising team seeks to translate its district-level meetings into attendance at the Baraza.

The meeting also highlighted the role of local council leaders in connecting regional political initiatives with communities at village level, where much of the mobilisation is expected to take place.

October 24 Baraza expected to draw Bugisu mobilisation teams

The planned Baraza at Mbale Cricket Grounds is being positioned by PLU organisers as a major gathering to endorse Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba in connection with the MK 2031 campaign.

The preparations in Sironko follow efforts by Bugisu mobilisation leaders to bring different political and grassroots structures together around the event.

With local leaders tasked with reaching residents across the district, the coming days will be important in determining the extent to which the mobilisation drive translates into attendance at the venue.

The Sironko meeting concluded with a message of unity and readiness from the organisers, who expressed confidence that the district would make a significant contribution to the gathering.

For the Bugisu PLU mobilisation team, the immediate task is to sustain coordination among village, parish and sub-county leadership structures while expanding awareness of the event ahead of Saturday, October 24.

The organisers' stated ambition is clear: to demonstrate coordinated grassroots mobilisation across Bugisu in support of the proposed MK 2031 political campaign.
