Kaliro Residents Hear Fresh NRM Infrastructure and Education Plans from President Museveni

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni continued his nationwide campaign trail with a major rally in Kaliro District, accompanied by First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Maama Janet Museveni. The visit formed part of his ongoing effort to present the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Manifesto for the 2026–2031 term and to mobilize support across Busoga Sub-region.

Addressing thousands of enthusiastic supporters, the President emphasized that the NRM’s development agenda remains anchored on strategic investments in infrastructure, social services, and the transformation of household incomes. He reminded residents that the progress they see today is a result of deliberate, long-term planning and a disciplined leadership ethos.

President Museveni noted that although several roads in the region have previously been repaired—specifically the Iganga–Kaliro road, which has undergone rehabilitation twice—more durable, long-term solutions are necessary to unlock the district’s economic potential.

He outlined critical road priorities for the coming term:

Kamuli–Kaliro–Pallisa Road: Identified as the next major project to enhance connectivity and trade across Busoga and Bukedi.

Kamuli–Kigulu–Lyingo–Idudi–Kaliro Road (Approx. 90 km): A strategic route expected to ease movement between communities and link farmers to larger markets.

Kamuli–Kaliro–Namuywa–Mayuge–Pallisa Road: Another vital corridor that will support commerce, transport, and social services.

The President noted that these road networks are not just transportation assets but economic arteries that will strengthen agricultural markets, support agro-processing, and spur rural development.

Education: “Clear Progress from Where We Began”

Accompanied by Maama Janet, the President turned to education—a sector he often credits as the cornerstone of long-term national transformation.

He highlighted the district’s strong progress:

87 parishes served by 89 government primary schools, reflecting significant coverage and accessibility.

9 government secondary schools, which are far more than what Uganda had at independence.

Four new seed secondary schools under construction, aimed at increasing enrolment and easing long travel distances for learners.

President Museveni recalled that in 1961, A-Level schools were extremely few, and opportunities for advanced education were limited to only a handful of elite families. He argued that the current availability of secondary schools across rural districts like Kaliro is testament to the NRM’s consistent investment in human capital formation.

As in his other rallies, the President encouraged the people—particularly the youth—to understand the historical context of Uganda’s development. He stressed that the work done over the years to stabilize the country, expand infrastructure, and restore social services must be preserved through disciplined and visionary leadership.

Museveni reiterated that the NRM’s track record on peace, prosperity, and national unity forms the foundation upon which the next phase of socio-economic transformation will be built.

Leaders and residents of Kaliro welcomed the President’s assurances, especially the promise to upgrade the district’s major roads, which they identified as a persistent challenge affecting trade, transport, and access to services.

With the campaign gaining momentum, the rally in Kaliro reflected both NRM's long-standing support in the region and the government’s commitment to completing ongoing development projects.
