NRM Flagbearers Cleared for National Women Council Polls at Kyambogo

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Party flagbearers for the forthcoming National Women Council elections have been nominated by the Independent Electoral Commission ahead of tomorrow's polls at Kyambogo College School.

The nomination exercise, conducted this afternoon, formally cleared the four NRM flagbearers to contest for key positions on the National Women's Council, marking another significant stage in the country's ongoing process of constituting Women's Councils and Committees from the grassroots to the national level.

The nominated candidates are Ann Ruyondo Lumumba, who is contesting for the position of National Chairperson, Agnes Kirabo for Vice Chairperson, Hope Natukunda for Secretary for Finance, and Among Shakila Mwenyi for Publicity Secretary.

Their nomination comes after the NRM Electoral Commission conducted its internal party processes to select flagbearers who will represent the ruling party in the national-level elections.

The candidates will now face the electorate tomorrow when delegates convene at Kyambogo College School to elect leaders who will take up the respective positions on the National Women's Council.

The National Women's Council elections represent the final stage in the electoral programme for the formation of Women's Councils and Committees, which has been conducted progressively from the Village level through Parish, Sub-county and District levels before culminating at the national level.

The process is aimed at establishing leadership structures that provide women with representation and participation in governance, community mobilisation and national development.

The elected national leaders will be expected to play a key role in championing issues affecting women, promoting their participation in leadership and supporting programmes designed to improve social and economic empowerment across the country.

For the NRM, the elections are also an important opportunity to consolidate its representation within the country's women leadership structures as the party continues to mobilise support and promote the participation of women in political and development processes.

With all four party flagbearers now formally nominated, attention will shift to Kyambogo College School tomorrow, where delegates are expected to cast their votes in what will bring the national electoral programme for the formation of Women's Councils and Committees to its final conclusion.

The outcome of the elections will determine the new leaders who will steer the National Women's Council and represent women at the highest level of the council structure in the country.
