Kampala Metropolitan Police have launched a full-scale investigation into a chilling case of aggravated robbery and murder by strangulation that occurred in Kyanja, a suburb of Kampala, sending shockwaves through the community.

According to a press statement issued by ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, the incident took place on the night of February 3, 2026, in Kwaata Zone, Kyanja Ward, Kawempe Division.

The victim has been identified as Namulinde Diana, a 24-year-old businesswoman and social media content creator who was living alone in an apartment in Kyanja. Her body was discovered the following day, February 4, 2026, after friends, concerned by her unresponsiveness, went to check on her and found her apartment door open.

Police say preliminary findings indicate that Namulinde was a victim of aggravated robbery before she was murdered. In a significant early breakthrough, officers on the same day arrested a security guard attached to the premises where the deceased lived. The suspect was found in possession of items believed to have been stolen during the incident, some of which were later positively identified as belonging to the deceased.

Following the discovery, a joint team of homicide detectives and Scene of Crime Officers visited the apartment, where they documented the scene, collected several exhibits, and recorded statements from relevant witnesses to aid the investigation.

ASP Owoyesigyire revealed that three suspects have so far been identified, with two already in police custody to assist with ongoing inquiries. Efforts are underway to trace and apprehend any remaining suspects as investigations progress.

The body of Namulinde Diana was conveyed to KCCA Mulago City Mortuary, where a postmortem examination is expected to provide further details to support the inquiry.

Police have assured the public that investigations are ongoing and that all those involved will be brought to justice. The Kampala Metropolitan Police leadership has also urged members of the public to remain calm and to cooperate with investigators by providing any information that may be relevant to the case.

The killing has reignited concerns about security in residential apartment complexes across the city, particularly the role of private security personnel, as residents and authorities alike await the outcome of the police investigations.
