MP Godfrey Wakooli Boosts Agricultural Production with Maize Seed Distribution in Butiru

Residents of Butiru Constituency in Manafwa District have received maize seeds from their area Member of Parliament, Hon. Godfrey Wakooli Matembu, in a move aimed at strengthening agricultural production and food security.

The distribution, conducted across the constituency’s 10 sub-counties and three town councils, comes at a crucial time as farmers prepare for the new planting season following the onset of rains.

Beneficiaries welcomed the initiative, describing it as timely support amid rising input costs. Several residents noted that accessing quality maize seeds during the planting season is often difficult due to high demand and inflated market prices.

“We usually struggle to get quality seeds because prices shoot up during the planting season,” one beneficiary said. “This support has come at the right time since the rains have already started.”

Among those who received the seeds were Mukhama Joreme, Wakabili Amza, Nabuduwa Betty Massatte, and Paul Watsosi. They expressed optimism that the intervention would enable them to plant on time and improve yields this season.

The LC3 Chairperson of Mayanza Sub-county, Nabeke John, praised the initiative, noting that many households are financially constrained and unable to afford agricultural inputs.

“The cost of agricultural inputs is always high during the planting season, and many farmers cannot afford them,” he said. “This intervention will greatly support our farmers and improve production.”

Wodada Emmanuelt, political assistant to Hon. Wakooli, reiterated their commitment to community transformation, emphasizing that the seed distribution is part of broader efforts to uplift livelihoods in the constituency.

In his remarks, Hon. Wakooli said the donation was intended to help farmers maximize the ongoing rains and strengthen food security across Butiru.

“Many of our farmers fail to access quality seeds on time,” he noted. “That is why I decided to intervene and support my electorate so that they can improve their yields and livelihoods.”

The exercise was met with excitement from residents, who expressed hope that similar initiatives would continue to support agricultural growth and household incomes in the area.
