Nekesa Donates Land to NRM for Construction of Busia District Offices
Hon. Amb. Nekesa officially handed over the freehold land title measuring 0.111 hectares to the NRM Secretary General, Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong, on behalf of the party Secretariat.
The National Resistance Movement (NRM) National Treasurer, Hon. Amb. Barbara Nekesa Oundo, has donated a piece of land to the ruling party to facilitate the construction of permanent party offices in Busia District, in a move expected to strengthen the Movement's administrative and operational presence in the area.
Hon. Amb. Nekesa officially handed over the freehold land title measuring 0.111 hectares to the NRM Secretary General, Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong, on behalf of the party Secretariat.
The donated property is located at Plot 31, Hadongole Road, within Busia Municipality, and is expected to provide a permanent home for the party's district administrative structures.
The donation marks a significant contribution by the National Treasurer towards strengthening the party's institutional infrastructure and supporting its grassroots operations in Busia, where the NRM continues to consolidate its organisational presence.
Explaining the circumstances surrounding the acquisition and eventual donation of the property, Amb. Nekesa revealed that she purchased the land in July 2011, shortly after the commencement of the Ninth Parliament, but had deliberately left it undeveloped for nearly 15 years.
"I procured this land in July 2011, just a month into the 9th Parliament. I later acquired different properties after that and subsequently developed them, but for close to 15 years, this particular one has remained vacant, I think it was meant to host the Party in Busia District," Amb. Nekesa said.
She explained that the prolonged period during which the property remained undeveloped had eventually convinced her that it was destined to serve a greater purpose, particularly supporting the party to which she has dedicated her political and leadership career.
"I am, therefore, more than happy to now donate it to where it was destined to be," she told the Secretary General and other senior members of the NRM management.
Her decision to surrender the land title to the party represents a personal contribution towards the development of permanent infrastructure that could support the NRM's activities, coordination and mobilisation efforts in Busia District.
Receiving the land title, Rt. Hon. Todwong commended Amb. Nekesa for her commitment to the Movement, describing her as a dedicated cadre whose contribution reflects exemplary leadership and loyalty to the party.

Todwong noted that her gesture demonstrated the importance of individual commitment and personal sacrifice in advancing the NRM's institutional growth and strengthening its structures across the country.
"You have demonstrated exemplary leadership to the NRM members in Busia and the country at large," Todwong said.
The Secretary General further praised the National Treasurer for her dedication to the party's growth, recognising her contribution as an example of the responsibility expected of leaders entrusted with serving the Movement.
The donation is particularly significant given the importance of permanent district offices in supporting political party administration, coordinating grassroots activities, facilitating communication and providing a central point of engagement for party leaders and members.
For Busia District, the availability of land for the construction of dedicated NRM offices is expected to offer an opportunity for the party to establish a more permanent institutional presence within the municipality.
As National Treasurer, Amb. Nekesa occupies a key position within the NRM's national leadership, overseeing an important component of the party's organisational administration. Her donation also highlights the role of senior party officials in contributing towards the development of infrastructure beyond their formal responsibilities.
The handover of the freehold title now gives the NRM Secretariat an opportunity to plan for the development of the property into offices that will serve the party's leadership and membership in Busia.

The gesture underscores the significance of investing in permanent party infrastructure as the NRM continues to strengthen its organisational structures and maintain its presence at the district and grassroots levels.
