NRM Members Urged to Attend Village Barazas to Verify LC I and Women Council Flagbearers

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has called upon all its members across the country to actively participate in the ongoing village barazas aimed at verifying party flagbearers for the upcoming Local Council I (LC I) Chairperson and Women Council elections.

The village barazas form a crucial part of the party's electoral roadmap as the NRM prepares for grassroots elections that are expected to strengthen internal democracy and ensure that credible leaders are presented to the electorate.

According to party officials, the verification exercise provides an opportunity for registered NRM members to confirm the eligibility and acceptance of individuals seeking to contest under the party's banner. The process also allows communities to raise concerns, settle disputes, and ensure that only duly endorsed candidates proceed as official NRM flagbearers.

Party leaders have emphasized that participation in the village meetings is not only a right but also a responsibility of every NRM member. They noted that the grassroots structures remain the backbone of the party and that active involvement in the verification process will promote transparency, unity, and accountability.

"The success of our grassroots elections depends on the active participation of all party members. Every member should attend the village barazas to verify and confirm our flagbearers for LC I chairpersons and Women Councils. This is an opportunity to strengthen democracy within our party and ensure that the people's choices are respected," an NRM official said.

The village barazas are expected to bring together party members, local leaders, and electoral officials to deliberate on the suitability of candidates and ensure that the selection process is conducted in accordance with the NRM constitution and electoral guidelines.

The verification exercise comes as the Electoral Commission prepares for the Village (LC I) and Women Council elections scheduled for later this month. The elections are considered important because they establish leadership structures at the village level, which play a significant role in community mobilization, conflict resolution, and the implementation of government programmes.

Political observers say the village barazas will also serve as an opportunity for the party to consolidate support ahead of future electoral processes by promoting inclusiveness and encouraging members to take ownership of grassroots leadership structures.

NRM members have therefore been urged to turn up in large numbers, participate peacefully, and ensure that the verification exercise reflects the wishes and aspirations of the party's grassroots supporters.

The party leadership has reiterated its commitment to conducting free, fair, and transparent internal processes and has encouraged all stakeholders to uphold unity and discipline during the village barazas as preparations for the LC I Chairperson and Women Council elections gather momentum across the country.
