Parish-Based Mobilisation Strategy Set to Power NRM’s January Election Bid

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has unveiled a new Parish-based Grassroot Mobilisation strategy as the party intensifies preparations for the January elections. The initiative, announced at the party’s headquarters, seeks to consolidate support for President Yoweri Museveni by deploying village-level teams to conduct extensive voter outreach.

The strategy was launched by the NRM Deputy Secretary General, Rt. Hon. Namayanja Rose Nsereko, who emphasized that the campaign aims to directly engage more than 13 million voters. She noted that the party is adopting an aggressive village-to-village and door-to-door mobilisation model to ensure maximum contact with citizens across the country.

“We have developed this strategy to ensure we intensify our campaigns such that by January 15, the NRM can secure its victory,” Namayanja said. According to her, the approach will rely on the efforts of 63 NRM members in each village, including the 30 leaders of the village structure and representatives of youth, persons with disabilities, women, and the elderly. These teams will be responsible for recruitment, voter engagement, and strengthening the party’s community networks.

The new mobilisation drive will complement the ongoing district rallies being conducted by the NRM presidential candidate, Yoweri Museveni, who is currently traversing the country to solicit support for his next term.

Hon. Amb. Barbara Nekesa, the NRM National Treasurer and the chief mobiliser for the Bukedi subregion, revealed that the party has already updated its membership register, which now accounts for more than 18 million voters. She expressed confidence in President Museveni’s re-election, citing the party’s historical achievements as a strong foundation for the campaign.

“We believe that President Museveni will be given another term of office. The idea of protecting the gains is important because many achievements have been made since the NRM came to power in 1986. Peace and stability have been restored, women’s empowerment has grown, and the country has invested in infrastructure,” she said. Nekesa further highlighted improvements in ICT and other key sectors as evidence of the party’s sustained progress.

The NRM Director of Mobilisation, Hon. Dr. Rosemary Seninde, described the new strategy as “all-encompassing,” designed to ensure the party’s message reaches every eligible voter. She noted that the teams involved in the exercise will not only focus on securing votes but also safeguarding them throughout the electoral process.

“On top of mobilizing for votes, this team will also be charged with protecting the votes of President Museveni,” Seninde said.

With just weeks to the elections, the Parish-based Grassroot Mobilisation strategy represents one of the NRM’s most extensive voter outreach efforts, reflecting the party’s determination to maintain its political dominance and secure another mandate for President Museveni.
