President Museveni Concludes Ankole Tour with Major Rally in Rubirizi, Calls for Continued Support to Consolidate Gains
The President anchored his message on the Runyankore blessing “Kazaare, okatung’ente norutookye”—loosely translated as a wish for abundant prosperity. He said the phrase reflects not just cultural wisdom, but a practical roadmap for transforming households through productivity, modern farming, and improved infrastructure.
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Wednesday concluded his campaign tour of the Ankole Subregion with a highly attended rally in Rubirizi District, where he highlighted the National Resistance Movement’s (NRM) achievements and urged citizens to stay focused on a development path grounded in stability, wealth creation, and long-term planning.
Rubirizi as a Showcase of Grassroots Transformation
Museveni pointed to Rubirizi as a living example of the tangible impact of NRM policies. He narrated the story of an elderly woman who had lived beside the tarmac road for over 65 years without owning even a single animal or business—until the Parish Development Model (PDM) reached her. Today, she is among the beneficiaries whose lives have drastically changed due to government efforts to inject capital into households previously excluded from the money economy.
“This is why we insist on structured wealth creation,” Museveni noted. “When people access capital, guidance, and markets, they move from subsistence to prosperity. That is the true meaning of development.”
Seven Building Blocks Behind Uganda’s Transformation
Throughout his Ankole tour, the President emphasized seven core pillars that he said define the NRM’s transformative agenda. While he did not list all seven during the Rubirizi rally, he reiterated that the region’s progress reflects these elements—especially infrastructure development, peace, electricity expansion, improved healthcare, and education.
He noted that the upgrading of road networks in Ankole and across the country has opened up trade routes, eased movement of goods, and connected rural communities to markets. Rubirizi, once a remote outskirt, now enjoys improved access to major economic centers.
On electricity, the President explained that the government remains committed to extending power to every corner of the country, arguing that rural electrification fuels small industries, services, and agro-processing. Healthcare and education, he added, have also advanced, citing improved facilities and an expanding cadre of trained professionals.
A Call to Reject Distractions and Focus on Development
President Museveni cautioned Ugandans against what he described as “issues that seek to divert us from a proven and effective approach to development.” He urged citizens, especially in Ankole, to remain steadfast and avoid political narratives that undermine the progress made over the years.
He emphasized that the journey to national prosperity requires unity, consistency, and an unwavering commitment to the NRM’s tested methods.
“Let us not abandon what works,” he said. “We are building a foundation that future generations will build upon.”
Ankole’s Loyal Support Recognised
The President expressed deep gratitude to the people of Ankole, whom he praised for consistently supporting the NRM and embracing government programs. He noted that the region’s strong backing has enabled the party to implement policies that have improved livelihoods and strengthened Uganda’s economic base.
As he concluded his tour, Museveni reiterated that the government’s next phase focuses on deepening household incomes, expanding value addition, modernizing agriculture with inputs such as fertilizers and irrigation, and finalizing key road and energy projects.
With Rubirizi marking the final stop in the Ankole subregion, the President is expected to continue his nationwide campaign trail, reinforcing his message of stability, wealth creation, and infrastructure-led development. The rally reaffirmed his stance that the NRM’s journey—rooted in historical and cultural wisdom—remains the most dependable path toward transforming Uganda into a prosperous nation.
