Nangoli, Masaba and Wanda Among New PLU Patriotic Officers as Former VP Bukenya Also Receives Senior Number

Three prominent politicians from Uganda’s Bugisu region have been appointed Patriotic Officers (POs) in the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), joining a wider group of notable Ugandans recognised under the organisation’s symbolic ranking system.

The newly appointed Bugisu figures are Hon. Gerald Nangoli, Member of Parliament for Elgon North County in Bulambuli District; Hon. Muhamood Masaba Mutenyo, MP for Bungokho Central in Mbale District; and Hon. Richard Wanda, former MP for Bungokho Central.

The appointments were announced by Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Chairman of the Patriotic League of Uganda, with the new appointments covering PO numbers ranging from PO/183 to PO/300.

Hon. Nangoli has been assigned PO/205, while Hon. Masaba Mutenyo has received PO/206. Former Bungokho Central MP Hon. Richard Wanda has been designated PO/207.

The list also includes H.E. Gilbert Bukenya, former Vice President of Uganda, who has been awarded PO/300.

According to PLU General Secretary Hon. Twalla Fadil, the appointments are intended to recognise individuals joining or contributing to the organisation and to encourage them to uphold patriotic values in their service to Uganda.

“We congratulate all the newly appointed Patriotic Officers and urge them to serve with diligence, loyalty and unwavering commitment to PLU and our Motherland,” Twalla said.

Bugisu political figures recognised

The inclusion of Nangoli, Masaba and Wanda gives Bugisu a notable presence among the latest group of Patriotic Officers.

Hon. Gerald Nangoli represents Elgon North County in Bulambuli District, an area within the wider Bugisu sub-region. His appointment as PO/205 places him among the political figures being recognised under the PLU structure.

Hon. Muhamood Masaba Mutenyo, who represents Bungokho Central in Mbale District, has been assigned PO/206, immediately following Nangoli on the announced list.

Former Bungokho Central legislator Richard Wanda has also been recognised, receiving PO/207.

The three appointments bring together serving and former legislators with political experience in different parts of Bugisu, highlighting the region's representation within the latest PLU appointments.

Former Vice President Bukenya also recognised

The appointment of former Vice President Gilbert Bukenya adds further prominence to the latest list.

Bukenya served as Uganda’s Vice President from 2003 to 2011 and has remained a prominent figure in Uganda’s political landscape. 

His designation as PO/300 places him at the upper end of the latest numbering sequence, which runs from PO/183 to PO/300.

The list is reported to contain several notable politicians and other figures, reflecting the organisation's efforts to expand its network of individuals associated with its patriotic agenda.

What the PLU Patriotic Officer numbers signify

The Patriotic Officer (PO) numbers are described within PLU as a symbolic ranking system associated with a member's seniority, historical contribution and position within the organisation's leadership structure.

The numbers therefore provide a form of identification for individuals recognised as Patriotic Officers, while also reflecting their place within the broader PLU structure.

The latest appointments, stretching from PO/183 to PO/300, represent a sizeable addition to the organisation's Patriotic Officer ranks.

For Bugisu, the recognition of Nangoli, Masaba and Wanda brings three politicians from the region into the latest group, while Bukenya's inclusion adds a former national vice president to the list.

The appointments are expected to further strengthen the PLU's network among political leaders and influential figures as the organisation continues to promote what it describes as patriotism, loyalty and service to Uganda.
