The special visit, which took place on May 16, 2026, came after engagements in the United States of America and marked an important moment of unity, cultural pride, and strengthening ties between Bamasaba people living in the diaspora and communities back home in Uganda.
The Bamasaba community in Canada recently hosted a memorable and historic visit by Dr. Samuel Wanendeya Watulatsu, a renowned Ugandan transformational development leader, social innovator, and scholar-practitioner from Masaba Land, as part of his international business partnerships and community outreach tour across North America.
The special visit, which took place on May 16, 2026, came after engagements in the United States of America and marked an important moment of unity, cultural pride, and strengthening ties between Bamasaba people living in the diaspora and communities back home in Uganda.
Dr. Watulatsu and his delegation were warmly welcomed at Pearson International Airport in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, by Dr. Andrew Mukwana Tingu and David Wangalwa. The reception reflected the deep bonds of brotherhood, friendship, and togetherness that continue to unite the Bamasaba people across the world.
The gathering was characterized by joy, celebration, cultural identity, and meaningful dialogue centered on preserving Bamasaba heritage while promoting development and international cooperation. Community members shared memorable moments as they celebrated traditional values and reaffirmed their commitment to unity and collective progress.
During the discussions, leaders emphasized the importance of maintaining strong cultural roots while embracing opportunities that come with global partnerships and diaspora engagement. They encouraged Bamasaba communities abroad to continue promoting peace, respect, cooperation, and development while ensuring that future generations remain connected to their heritage and identity.
Speaking during the engagements, Dr. Watulatsu expressed gratitude for the warm reception accorded to the delegation and applauded the Bamasaba community in Canada for preserving their culture and traditions while contributing positively to society abroad.
He noted that such visits are essential in strengthening relationships between communities, inspiring younger generations, and building a stronger and more connected global Bamasaba family.
Dr. Watulatsu further highlighted ongoing efforts to establish city twinning programs between cities in Canada and Uganda. According to him, these partnerships are intended to promote cultural exchange, tourism, education, investment opportunities, development cooperation, and people-to-people relations between communities in the two countries.
The initiative is expected to open new opportunities for collaboration in sectors such as education, technology, community development, cultural tourism, and social innovation.
Beyond the cultural engagements, Dr. Watulatsu’s visit also reflected his broader mission of linking grassroots communities in Uganda with international networks and partnerships capable of driving sustainable transformation.
Widely respected in Uganda’s development and social work sectors, Dr. Watulatsu has spent over three decades championing initiatives focused on sustainable development, climate adaptation, mental health systems, youth empowerment, institution building, social enterprise development, and community resilience.
He currently serves as Coordinator for Global Partnerships at the Mbale City Development Forum and also chairs the Lobbying, Advocacy and Communications committee for the proposed Mbale University of Science and Technology initiative.
In addition, he is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Foundation for Development of Needy Communities (FDNC), an organization that has pioneered programs aimed at improving livelihoods, promoting climate resilience, supporting vulnerable communities, strengthening institutions, and advancing cultural enterprise in the Bugisu sub-region and beyond.
Dr. Watulatsu is widely recognized for his unique approach to development that combines academic knowledge, grassroots mobilization, and international networking to create sustainable social impact. His work has directly and indirectly transformed thousands of lives through community-centered reforms and innovative development strategies.
Among his notable contributions are efforts to integrate mental health into community development, promote family-based care models for children with special needs, create employment opportunities through cultural tourism, and empower marginalized communities through local participation and capacity building.
His philosophy, “Think globally, act locally to make the world a better place,” continues to guide his work and inspire many development practitioners both within Uganda and internationally.
The visit to Canada concluded in a spirit of celebration, renewed friendship, and collective commitment toward advancing unity, prosperity, and development among the Bamasaba people worldwide.
As the gathering came to an end, one message stood out clearly among participants:
“Unity is strength, and togetherness builds a brighter future for our people.”
