Sumic Group CEO Cirus Sumika Inspires UICT Students with Real-World ICT Insights

Kampala, Uganda — In a move aimed at strengthening the link between academic learning and industry practice, Cirus Sumika, Chief Executive Officer of Sumic Group, this week delivered a guest lecture to Year Two ICT students at the Uganda Institute of Information and Communications Technology (UICT).

The session, held in collaboration with Brenda Nakanjako, a lecturer in the institution’s ICT and Engineering Department, focused on bridging the gap between classroom theory and practical industry application—an area increasingly critical in Uganda’s fast-evolving digital economy.

During the interactive lecture, Sumika guided students through key academic concepts including the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), system analysis and design, and core software engineering principles. He emphasized how these foundational topics extend beyond textbooks into the development of real-world systems and digital products.

Drawing on practical case studies and industry experience, Sumika illustrated how structured processes such as planning, design, development, testing, and deployment play a crucial role in delivering effective and scalable technology solutions.

“The goal is to help students clearly see how what they study translates into actual systems, products, and meaningful impact in the market,” he noted during the session.

One of the standout aspects of the engagement, according to Sumika, was the high level of curiosity and participation exhibited by the students. Through interactive discussions and questions, learners demonstrated a keen interest in understanding how to apply their knowledge in real-world scenarios.
