Old Kampala Police Arrest Eight Over Viral Video Allegedly Linked to Violent Criminal Activities

KAMPALA — Police at Old Kampala have arrested eight suspects in connection with a viral social media video in which a group of individuals allegedly boast about carrying out violent attacks against members of the public.

The arrests followed an intelligence-led operation conducted on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at Gojo Gym in Namungona, Lubya Parish, Rubaga Division, Kampala District.

According to police, four of the eight suspects arrested are allegedly seen in the viral video, which has attracted public concern over claims of violent attacks and threats against medical practitioners.

In the video, a group of about six individuals allegedly praise themselves for attacking members of the public, with some claiming responsibility for incidents in which victims reportedly suffered serious injuries, including broken jaws and teeth.

The individuals further allegedly demand that dentists share with them money earned from treating people who were injured in the attacks. They also allegedly threaten medical practitioners who fail to comply with their demands.

Following the circulation of the video on social media, police launched investigations aimed at identifying the individuals involved and establishing whether the claims made in the recording correspond to actual criminal incidents.

Eight suspects arrested

During the operation at Gojo Gym, police arrested eight suspects identified as:

Walumu James

Elvis Simanya

Police said preliminary investigations indicate that the gym was allegedly being used as a meeting point by the suspects under the guise of boxing training.

Investigators suspect that some of those arrested could be connected to a wider network involved in violent criminal activities within Kampala.

Suspected links to other crimes

Police said the ongoing investigations have linked the suspects to allegations including robbery, housebreaking, theft and phone snatching.

The suspects are also being investigated over the alleged use of deadly weapons and unlawful possession of suspected narcotic substances.

Police said the last four suspects were found at the gym during the operation, with some of them allegedly found in possession of substances suspected to be narcotics.

Authorities have not yet disclosed the specific quantities or types of substances recovered, as investigations remain ongoing.

Police pursue other individuals

Police said the arrest of the eight suspects is part of a wider effort to dismantle the group allegedly involved in the activities depicted in the viral video.

Investigators are continuing efforts to identify and apprehend other individuals seen in the recording.

Police are also working to establish whether the claims made in the video are connected to specific incidents reported by members of the public and to identify possible victims.

The authorities are expected to examine the circumstances surrounding the alleged attacks, establish the identities of those involved and determine the extent of the suspects' individual roles.

Suspects remain in custody

The eight suspects are currently being held in police custody pending further investigations and court proceedings.

Police emphasized that the allegations against the suspects remain subject to investigation and due legal process, and that they will have an opportunity to defend themselves in court.

The arrests come amid continued concern over violent criminal activities in parts of Kampala, particularly incidents involving robbery, phone snatching and attacks on members of the public.

Police have urged members of the public who may have been victims of attacks connected to the suspects to come forward and provide information to investigators.

Members of the public with information that could help identify other individuals appearing in the viral video or establish the identities of victims have also been encouraged to report to police.

Authorities say such information could be critical in helping investigators establish the full circumstances surrounding the alleged attacks and bring all individuals found culpable to justice.
