President Museveni Champions Production-Led Growth at Kawempe Campaign Rally

Kampala, Uganda — President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni energized supporters in Kawempe Division today, delivering a forceful message on the origins of wealth and jobs, and urging residents to turn out in strong numbers for the 15th January elections in support of the National Resistance Movement (NRM).

Addressing a large crowd alongside “Maama” and key NRM leadership, President Museveni underscored the central role of production in transforming Uganda’s economy. He cautioned especially young people against the allure of migrating abroad in search of perceived opportunities, instead emphasizing that sustainable prosperity is rooted in domestic economic activity.

“Real wealth is built where there is production,” the President stated, drawing applause from the audience.

Focus on Production: Agriculture, Industry, Artisanship, and Services

At the heart of President Museveni’s address was a clear economic message: wealth and employment are generated through productive sectors such as commercial agriculture, manufacturing, artisan trades, and services.

President Museveni highlighted that even crops like maize—when cultivated on a large scale—do more than provide food. They spur a wide spectrum of economic activity:

Job creation in farming

Employment in processing and value addition

Opportunities in trade and supply chains

“Growing maize and other commodities at scale creates jobs in growing, processing and trading,” he explained, reinforcing the importance of a value-chain approach to economic growth.

Affordable Capital and Economic Participation

President Museveni reiterated the Government’s longstanding effort since 1997 to expand access to affordable capital, enabling Ugandans to actively participate in wealth-creating ventures. This includes support for farmers, entrepreneurs, artisans, and small business owners.

He emphasized that access to capital remains a cornerstone of Uganda’s economic transformation strategy—helping citizens to:

Establish and expand commercial farms Invest in factory operations

Build sustainable services and artisan enterprises

This, he said, is the correct path to both jobs and shared prosperity.

Message to Youth: Build Here, Prosper Here

A significant portion of the rally focused on the youth of Kawempe. President Museveni appealed to young Ugandans to resist the temptation of seeking fortunes abroad, which he described as an “illusion,” and instead to embrace opportunities within Uganda’s growing economy.

He challenged them to engage in productive endeavours at home—whether in agriculture, manufacturing, services, or skilled trades—where their work can spur growth and livelihoods for themselves and their communities.

Concluding his address, President Museveni urged residents of Kawempe to come out in large numbers on 15th January and cast their votes for the NRM.

He reminded the electorate that the party’s policies over the decades have been geared toward building an economy anchored in production and self-reliance—values he believes will continue to drive Uganda forward.

President Museveni’s rally in Kawempe underscored a central theme in his campaign: economic transformation through production. With emphasis on local opportunity, youth employment, and sustained investment, his message called for unity behind an agenda of homegrown development.

The 15th January elections are shaping up to be a vital moment for Ugandans to decide the direction of the nation’s economic and political future—especially for the urban communities of Kampala whose youth constitute a significant share of the electorate.
