President Museveni Urges Ideological Clarity, Sound Financial Discipline at Kyankwanzi Retreat

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has called on Members of Parliament-elect to embrace ideological clarity and prudent financial management as essential pillars for effective leadership and national transformation.

Speaking during an evening session at the ongoing retreat held at the National Leadership Institute Kyankwanzi, the President said leaders must anchor their decisions on strong principles if they are to address Uganda’s socio-economic challenges.

Museveni noted that he had engaged the legislators in discussions following presentations by experts on personal financial management and wealth creation—areas he described as critical for leaders entrusted with public responsibility. He emphasized that financial discipline among leaders not only safeguards personal integrity but also strengthens public trust in government institutions.

The President further revealed that the retreat also tackled broader national issues, particularly taxation and strategies to improve its effectiveness. He underscored the need for lawmakers to understand and support policies that enhance domestic revenue mobilization without stifling economic growth.

However, it was his emphasis on ideology that stood out. Museveni warned that many of the persistent challenges facing society—including conflict, corruption, cheating, and bribery—stem from what he termed “ideological underdevelopment.”

According to the President, a lack of clear ideological grounding among leaders often leads to decisions driven by personal interest rather than national good. He urged the MPs-elect to continuously evaluate their actions against core principles and the broader vision of national development.

The Kyankwanzi retreat, which brings together newly elected legislators and senior government officials, is designed to orient leaders on governance, policy direction, and the ideological foundations of the ruling National Resistance Movement.

As the sessions continue, participants are expected to engage in deeper discussions on leadership conduct, national priorities, and strategies aimed at strengthening unity and discipline within the parliamentary caucus.
